Job description

As a Buyer in the newly formed Programme Buying team, you will collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand requirements for the capital delivery programme and work with suppliers to develop robust commercial agreements for key products, which will be required in volume for the coming five-year investment cycle.

You will join the UK Procurement Hub and work closely with YTL Construction (Infrastructure) to ensure the programme buying approach is successful, adding both supply chain resilience and commercial benefit.

What you'll do

Day to day, the role will involve:

  • Developing robust commercial agreements with our key AMP8 partners in a challenging investment cycle
  • Liaising with the Delivery and Commercial teams to understand requirements across multiple projects within each workstream
  • Working with category managers to implement the best approach to place orders, book production slots, and implement new frameworks to ensure both commercial benefit and focus on delivery timings and quality requirements
  • Working with key partners with a focus on sustainable procurement in sourcing activity
  • Acting as a key conduit between suppliers and internal customers
  • Understanding the status of orders or contracts for the programme and communicating with stakeholders across multiple projects
  • Monitoring supplier performance for key spend areas and developing reporting opportunities in collaboration with category managers

You'll also:

  • Identify storage requirements and ensure products are delivered to site in a timely manner
  • Manage the ordering process for products across the programme, communicating with internal teams about changes and delivery statuses
  • Liaise with the Finance team to align advanced payments and commitments with company guidelines
  • Implement new ideas and methods to improve the team's contribution and enhance the company's reputation
What you'll need

You will have proven experience working as a Buyer in a similar role, ideally with knowledge of key products required for construction within the capital delivery programme. Mechanical and electrical (M&E) experience is desirable.

You will have knowledge of the supply base within the water or similar sector. We seek an outgoing, enthusiastic individual with passion and determination to succeed.

You will have a collaborative, can-do attitude and a desire to work as part of a broad team. Industry experience with programme procurement approaches is desirable.

You will have strong analytical skills, superb attention to detail, and enjoy interacting with stakeholders and suppliers for optimal outcomes.

In addition, you will:

  • Have an understanding of eSourcing systems (e.g., Jaggaer, Coupa)
  • Know procurement policies and procedures
  • Be working towards CIPS membership or an equivalent qualification
  • Possess negotiation and influencing skills
  • Be able to clearly communicate business requirements
  • Be highly organised and articulate
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
What you'll receive
  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities
  • 25 days' holiday, rising to 28 with service
  • Option to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five
  • A healthcare package to claim back healthcare costs
  • Life assurance of up to eight times salary
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your salary, subject to conditions
  • Cashback and discounts from over 3,000 retailers
  • One paid volunteering day annually
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform
  • Support from mental health first aiders
  • A £1,000 referral bonus for recommending new hires
