We require a Buyer to join our busy Purchasing Team, based at our site in Abercynon, South Wales. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing our supplier portfolio, from whom we purchase goods and services critical to our operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain assigned supplier relations by selecting suppliers and negotiating prices for materials and/or services required, ensuring procurement aligns with programmes through the most economical, timely, and efficient means.
  • Analyse, negotiate, and report supplier price changes.
  • Conduct periodic commodity surveys to obtain price comparisons; evaluate market trends to develop new services and achieve cost savings.
  • Select new and alternative sources of supply in collaboration with technical staff.
  • Choose new and alternative materials and services, providing technical and/or commercial advantages to the company.
  • Ensure all purchasing requisitions and programmes are accurate and reflect current supplier lead times, keeping management and user departments informed of any changes that could impact work programmes.
  • Identify potential problem areas and recommend solutions.
  • Minimise the company's exposure regarding MOQs and price increases by obtaining relevant approvals.
  • Proactively liaise with other departments to forecast, plan, and meet demand while maintaining quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with company codes of conduct and Health and Safety regulations.
  • Handle administration and reporting as required.
  • Negotiate, optimise, and manage payment terms.
  • Understand international trading issues, imports, and legal considerations.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvements within your areas of control.
  • Control and minimise excess inventory and associated costs.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
  • At least 3 years of purchasing experience within a manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Strategic thinking with an innovative approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a proven track record of cost reduction using strategic purchasing tools.
  • Familiarity with ERP, MRP, and purchasing systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
