Job description

New subject. Real-world skills. A chance to shape futures.

We’re hiring a qualified Business Studies Teacher (PGCE/QTS/QTLS) for a newly created role at HMYOI Feltham—brought in due to demand from the young learners themselves.

You’ll design and teach engaging lessons around enterprise, employability, and financial literacy to 15–18-year-olds. Many want to understand business basics, manage money, or even launch a future venture. You’ll help them build skills, confidence, and a plan.

You’ll join a supportive education team where progress matters more than perfection, and relationships are everything.

The role:

  • Up to 23 teaching hours/week: 3.5 hrs AM + 2 hrs PM (Mon–Thurs), 3 hrs on Fridays
  • Early Friday finish – 1pm
  • PPA and admin time included
  • Teach 5 groups across the week, with extra time for 1:1 support/outreach

Why it’s different: This is your chance to build a subject from scratch, with the freedom to tailor content. You’ll work with learners who haven’t had the best experience in school but are ready to engage—if the approach is right.

The setting is secure but safe and well-structured. You’ll have support from an on-site Ops Manager, officers nearby, and staff alarm systems. If anything escalates, help is fast.

You’ll need to be resilient, patient, and relatable—able to build rapport, redirect off-topic chatter, and create meaningful lessons.

What you’ll need:

  • A Level 5+ teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, QTLS)
  • Confidence to design your own content
  • Background or interest in enterprise/employability
  • Energy, empathy, and a belief in second chances

What’s on offer:

  • 40 days holiday (35 fixed + 5 flexible)
  • Healthcare cash plan
  • Matched pension (4–6%) & life assurance (3x salary)
  • Organisational sick pay
  • Work that makes a genuine difference
