Job description

As we launch our next five-year £3.5 billion capital investment plan, we're expanding our Investment team. We have a fantastic opportunity for a Business Planning and Process Analyst to join the team responsible for optimising investment decisions that drive industry-leading performance, managing emerging risks, and ensuring we meet our financial and regulatory commitments.

This role plays a key part in securing the long-term sustainability of water and wastewater services across our region.

What you'll do

In this pivotal role, you will:

  • prepare and consolidate capital expenditure, new Operating expenses (OpEx) impact, and capital income annual budgets
  • manage quarterly financial forecasts for the capital investment programme
  • deliver clear financial data and analysis to support business reviews and strategic planning
  • ensure budgets align with internal and regulatory targets
  • challenge breaches in performance, outcomes, or risk objectives across the programme
  • develop and refine the Internal Business Plan (IBP) process to reflect performance expectations and risk appetite
  • track investment programme performance throughout the year, including expenditure and delivery outputs
  • compile and deliver progress reports to executive committees.

You'll partner with Senior Managers across the organisation, playing a vital role in aligning investment strategies with business priorities. You'll also work closely with business leads to shape robust business cases, providing analytical insight and ensuring initiatives support broader organisational goals.

You'll bring a strong analytical mindset and a process-oriented approach, along with the confidence to challenge ideas and collaborate effectively across teams. Experience with capital investment processes or performance and risk frameworks would be desirable but not essential.

What you'll need

To thrive in this role, we're looking for someone who can bring a powerful blend of analytical ability, strategic thinking, and collaborative energy.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • a degree in finance, mathematics, engineering, or another analytical discipline
  • experience working in the water industry
  • exceptional attention to detail, a naturally inquisitive mindset, and the confidence to take on new and unfamiliar challenges
  • a proven track record as a lead or key contributor to change projects or transformation programmes
  • strong data analysis skills with advanced proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and Power Query with a focus on data governance
  • the ability to break down complex regulatory or technical information and communicate it clearly to a range of audiences
  • enthusiasm for learning new systems, tools, and problem-solving approaches.
What you'll receive
  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
