Business Operations Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a highly capable and proactive Business Operations Manager to support and enhance the delivery of consultancy projects and ensure the smooth running of internal operations. Working across multiple functions, this role serves as a key link between clients, technical teams, and the wider business. The successful candidate will manage project workflows, invoicing, client communications, and critical administrative areas such as HR, quality accreditation, travel, facilities, and supplier contracts. For the right candidate, this role offers the opportunity to join the Senior Management Team and contribute strategically to business development and operational growth.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Client Support

  • Coordinate project workflows, schedules, and resource allocation in line with client requirements.
  • Monitor project timelines and budgets, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing.
  • Act as a liaison between clients and technical teams, facilitating effective communication and problem-solving.
  • Maintain and manage internal project databases and scheduling software.
  • Oversee the logistical aspects of project delivery, coordinating with and supporting the Logistics Administrator to ensure timely and efficient receipt of samples and project setup.

Business Operations

  • Oversee supplier contracts including energy, telecoms, insurance, and building maintenance.
  • Organise company events and support development of promotional materials.
  • Manage key business systems and processes to improve quality, efficiency and compliance.
  • Support business planning and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

HR & Personnel Administration

  • Maintain staff personnel records and HR systems (e.g. BrightHR).
  • Support recruitment activities, including interview scheduling and onboarding.
  • Oversee management of staff benefits such as health insurance.
  • Organise travel, accommodation, visas, and logistics for staff attending external conferences or site work.
  • Draft and maintain internal staff policies, HR documentation, and company memos in line with company values and legal obligations.

Required Skills & Experience

  • A degree or equivalent level qualification in a relevant business management discipline
  • Prior experience in operations, office management, or project coordination in a consultancy or technical services environment.
  • Strong organisational, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Proficiency with business tools such as project management (e.g. Asana), databases, HR software (BrightHR), and Microsoft & Libre Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proactive and client-focused approach.
  • Ability to balance day-to-day responsibilities with strategic oversight.

Desirable Attributes

  • Familiarity with the minerals, mining, or construction materials sectors.
  • Experience handling or organizing technical documentation.
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to contribute to business development.
