Job Description
A market-leading UK pensions institution is seeking a Business Engineering Developer to join its dynamic, cross-functional technology team. This is a rare opportunity to build and enhance the critical systems that underpin a multi-billion-pound insurance platform — spanning trading, operations, finance, and actuarial functions.
The role sits at the heart of the business, combining hands-on development with meaningful collaboration across teams including Strats, Trading, Operations, and Risk. The successful candidate will contribute to a fast-moving, technically ambitious environment that supports one of the most sophisticated pension risk transfer platforms in the market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance and maintain core business systems, including:
- Trade and feed processing
- Workflow management
- Risk and finance reporting
-User-facing tools and interfaces
- Design and build new applications using Python, ReactJS, SQL Server/PostgreSQL, and web services
- Contribute to the firm’s proprietary codebase (built on a secure in-house used across the financial industry)
- Partner closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver pragmatic, high-impact solutions
About You:
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, ideally in financial services (e.g. insurance, trading, or banking)
- Strong Python development skills and a willingness to work across a varied tech stack
- Comfortable working with SQL databases, distributed systems, and modern web frameworks
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach
- Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and best engineering practices
Nice to Have:
- Web development experience (Flask, React, JavaScript)
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS) and Linux environments
- Knowledge of proprietary financial engineering platforms (e.g. SecDB, Athena, or Quartz)
