Job summary

Ultra Maritime, a global naval defence leader, seeks a Business Development/Technical Sales Manager to drive engagement with support customers and grow UK and international business. You will work with a Segment Lead and a large team to craft proposals, tender responses, and solutions, travelling approx.

10% and enjoying a hybrid work setup across London, Loudwater, and Weymouth. You will build relationships with key customers, translate needs into technical solutions with the engineering team,

Qualifications

  • Sales and/or Engineering experience within Naval Defence Industry or Armed Forces service.
  • Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a related field with Defence experience.
  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining customer relationships.
  • Self-motivated, driven and enthusiastic with a can-do attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Manage worldwide customers and build relationships to grow the support business.
  • Develop regional business strategies to secure revenue growth.
  • Define user requirements and translate them into solutions with engineers.
  • Record and track opportunities in the CRM database.
  • Lead bid/win processes and respond to ITT/PQQ with deadlines.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineering, operations, and supply chain to deliver products/services.

This Business Development/Technical Sales Manager role is a critical part of Ultra Maritime’s international support proposition. The manager will lead engagement with a wide array of support customers and drive new growth in the UK and internationally. The role requires engineering and naval defence experience and will be supported by a substantial team to deliver proposals and solutions. The manager will work directly with the Segment Lead and organisation to identify new business opportunities, coupling market experience with Ultra Maritime’s wealth of capability. Expect around 10% travel and a hybrid work arrangement, with the option to work from any Ultra Maritime office (London - Greenford, Loudwater, or Weymouth). The candidate will travel to other sites or customers as required.

About The Role
  • Drive customer service excellence as primary point of contact for non-contracted incumbency positions, continuously reviewing sales/account processes and identifying new opportunities.
  • Review the market and generate new sales opportunities.
  • Understand customer needs and, with assistance of team members, prepare solutions that assist with tender specification descriptions.
  • Prepare, deliver and review sales presentations, contracts and proposals.
  • Ensure key customers are regularly updated on product and market developments to help ensure customer service excellence.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineering, operations, sales support and supply chain to ensure effective delivery of products/services and quick resolution of any issues.
  • Develop and implement effective communication/feedback links with management and R&D regarding customer feedback, supporting R&D in understanding commercial drivers.
  • Ensure the highest standard of EHS and Ethics behaviours, following all relevant processes and standards.
Main Tasks & Duties of the Position
  • Manage worldwide customers effectively and build appropriate relationships to develop the support business.
  • Develop business strategies for each region with targets to secure and grow revenue streams.
  • Generate, understand and review user requirements.
  • Ensure that technical solutions meet customer requirements, working with the Project Engineering Leads.
  • Use and manage the CRM database to record and track opportunities.
  • Support Bid/No-Bid reviews utilising customer and market knowledge.
  • Bid manage responses to Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) / Invitation To Tender (ITT) to ensure responses are completed within agreed customer deadlines.
  • Carry out any other duties as required to fulfil the role and provide an excellent customer experience.
Education / Experience and Soft Skills
  • Sales and/or Engineering experience within the Naval Defence Industry and/or service within the Armed Forces.
  • Typically, a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a related field with experience in the Defence Industry.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining customer relationships.
  • Self‑motivated, driven and enthusiastic with a can‑do attitude.
  • Capable of working independently using own initiative or as part of a team.
  • Ability to show a structured method of work, planning and executing diverse workloads.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to utilise IT & CRM for everyday use.
  • Flexibility in day‑to‑day duties as required by customers.
  • Valid driving licence and appropriate permission to work in the UK.
  • Eligibility to obtain SC Clearance.
Security Requirements

This role requires you to undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard Check (BPSS) as a minimum; some roles may require further national security vetting checks. Candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance. Refer to the United Kingdom Vetting Service (UKSV) for details.
