About

This is a very EXCITING new role….We are looking for a Business Development Manager to work in one of Europe’s busiest ports!

Role Overview

This key commercial role focuses on developing and managing perishable cargo accounts at the Port of Dover. With a strong emphasis on customer relationship management, the post holder will identify, secure, and grow revenue opportunities across the perishables supply chain—working with growers, importers, supermarkets, shipping lines, and logistics providers.

The Business Development Manager (Perishables) will be working within the Commercial team, reporting to our Head of Business Development who reports directly to the Chief Commercial Officer.

You will build partnerships with customers up and down the supply chain realising and growing our pipeline of business. The role is responsible for a significant revenue with profit and loss accountability.

Working in partnership with our client’s Operational team you will ensure quality standards are world-class in food security, safety, quality and sustainability. The role will involve working with our service teams and operations to deliver a range of exciting and challenging commercial projects in one of Europe’s busiest ports.

You will need a strong customer background in sales, account management and business development along with a passion for delivering world-class supply chain solutions nationally and internationally.

Key Responsibilities Drive commercial growth of the Port’s perishables business Manage key client accounts and develop new B2B opportunities Lead on commercial presentations, proposals, and trade engagement Analyse market and customer data to inform business strategy Ensure top-tier service standards in food safety, quality, and sustainability Collaborate across departments to deliver strategic projects

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 10+ years in perishables, shipping, logistics or fresh food sectors
  • Proven track record in business development and client management
  • Excellent knowledge of international trade and cold chain logistics
  • Experience within the perishable/reefer industry within a Port environment (desirable)
  • Strong commercial, marketing, and financial acumen (P&L responsibility). The Successful candidate would have a proven track record as a Business development manager or similar.
  • Skilled communicator and public speaker, confident at senior levels
  • Resilient, innovative, and customer-focused with a passion for supply chain excellence
  • Undertake International, European and UK travel
  • Project Management experience would be desirable

Location

  • Flexible hybrid working, although the post holder should be able to work out of the offices 3-4 days per week.
