Due to recent structural changes within the business and its continuing expansion, particularly within our maritime domain, we are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to join the Business Development Function. This is an exciting opportunity to join Allan Webb Ltd with good career progression as we continue an impressive growth path. The role will be based on hybrid working, including working from home with regular visits to the company offices and/or customer sites when required.

Reporting to the Allan Webb Business Development (BD) Director, you will have a strong entrepreneurial mind and understanding of best practice across Business Development and Governance within the Maritime (Commercial and Defence) domains, and be able to confidently manage the process from cradle to grave.

What will the role look like?

As a Business Development Manager (Maritime), your responsibilities will include:

  1. Developing new maritime (ships and/or submarine) Defence sector customer relationships, generating and negotiating new income to meet yearly financial targets.
  2. Retaining and growing existing maritime customer accounts through effective account management.
  3. Attending client meetings and exhibitions, predominantly within the UK, with some overnight stops. European and occasional long-haul travel may be required.
  4. Managing the business development process: lead generation, opportunity pursuit, understanding customer requirements, campaign and capture planning, solution development, proposal winning, pitching, negotiation, and closing.
  5. Assisting the Senior Leadership Team in shaping future vision and strategy for new business opportunities across capabilities and market sectors.
  6. Maintaining the company's reputation by providing high-quality service and value for money.

What can you bring to the role?

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent, ideally in an Engineering-related subject or similar.

  • Previous experience in a similar role within the military/defence, specifically the maritime industry.
  • Proven success in developing, managing, and winning bids and proposals, such as using the Shipley Process or a similar methodology.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly articulate with excellent attention to detail, able to spot errors and omissions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Self-motivated and confident.
