Telent Technology Services Limited is a leading technology company specializing in the design, build, operation, and maintenance of the UK’s critical digital infrastructure, drawing on decades of experience in mission-critical communications and technology.

As the Business Development Manager for Highways, you will report to the Business Development Director, Highways, and be responsible for achieving new orders to meet targets within Telent's Highways business. Your focus will be on business development and opportunity qualification activities to achieve growth targets through contract renewal and new customer acquisition. You will lead virtual teams to meet defined financial and strategic objectives, own an account plan, and contribute to the Highways business strategy, identifying markets, target contracts, and customers to provide value-added, differentiated solutions for profitable growth.

The role involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary, business-winning team to secure new multi-million-pound contracts from new customers and working with Operations to maintain and grow existing customer relationships.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining relationships with existing customers and establishing new ones
  • Developing an opportunity pipeline supporting growth aspirations
  • Achieving profitable orders from new and existing customers
  • Contributing to proposals, presentations, bid submissions, and marketing communications
  • Keeping CRM system updated with account, contact, and opportunity details
  • Directing marketing activities in collaboration with the marketing department
  • Maintaining and improving customer satisfaction scores

The role requires demonstrable experience managing key customer relationships (e.g., National Highways, Transport Scotland, Traffic Wales), achieving sales targets, and supporting sales and business development strategies.

Through high levels of customer service and securing profitable new business, you will help solidify Telent's position in the UK Highways Sector.

Typical deliverables:

  • Ownership and development of profitable opportunities
  • Promoting solutions-based sales opportunities
  • Working with bidding and technical teams to develop and close opportunities
  • Managing accurate monthly order forecasts
  • Analyzing market and competitor positions
  • Formulating win-themes and sales strategies
  • Improving proposal quality
  • Ensuring smooth order handover between sales and operations
  • Adhering to sales and bidding procedures
  • Providing market feedback to engineering teams

Experience required:

  • At least 10 years of sales/business development experience with established contacts in the Highways Market
  • Experience in defining target markets and strategies to secure business
  • Experience in writing and reviewing tender responses

Qualifications:

  • Engineering background / HNC or higher qualification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and cloud-based CRM systems
  • Full, clean driving license
  • Financial acumen to interpret reports and models
