Business Development Manager - Food & Nutrition

Our client is a market-leading, innovative distributor of speciality ingredients and flavours for the food, nutrition, supplement, and medical nutrition markets in the UK. They have invested significantly in sales, innovation, and marketing resources, with ambitious growth strategies.

They are seeking a dynamic and driven Technical Sales Manager passionate about flavours, food ingredients, and the food and beverage industry. This is a home-based role with regular visits to customers and their HQ in the UK, with occasional visits to Ireland. It is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the Division Manager.

The client also considers candidates currently in technical/NPD roles as Flavour or Beverage Technologists who wish to transition into a commercial role.

Job Purpose
  • Drive growth of the flavours and ingredients strategy by meeting and exceeding sales targets.
  • Build lasting relationships with key industry stakeholders.
  • Identify and convert potential business opportunities into successful partnerships.
  • Collaborate with Innovation and Manufacturing teams to develop solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Provide technical advice and support to customers to improve their products.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Sales
  • Achieve sales budgets for food ingredients and flavours.
  • Develop strong customer relationships through regular visits and excellent service.
  • Maintain CRM records with sales information.
  • Expand key markets using defined strategies.
Manufacturer Relationships
  • Engage with manufacturers across key organic product groups.
  • Gather marketing information and ensure UK stock availability.
  • Communicate with supplier partners and develop new supplier relationships.
Qualifications and Experience
  • BSc or equivalent in a relevant scientific or technical discipline, or industrial experience.
  • Experience as a technical salesperson in the food and beverage industry, focusing on flavours and ingredients, or current technical/NPD roles with a desire to move into sales.
  • Proven track record in launching products and building sustainable supplier relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, proactive attitude, and strategic thinking.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 (negotiable based on experience), plus benefits including an expensed company car, five weeks holiday, pension, healthcare, and a bonus scheme.
