Job description

Business Development Manager - Defence (Hybrid)

With over 35 years of privately owned and specialist history, our client is recognised for the design, specification and distribution of specialist electronic components and systems across a range of sectors and applications. To support this continued specialist focus, they are seeking a NEW Business Development Manager to further develop their market position within the defence, government and/or secure communication sectors.

Focused on the consultative/solution sales supply of embedded computing technology, computing peripherals, power suppliers, filters, displays etc., this role is targeting a 'hunting' approach to grow relationships within these governmental and business clients, securing packages of work and continued sales development.

Ideally centrally based, the Business Development Manager will generate new opportunities from a hybrid/office position across the UK, penetrating deeper into the customer base with existing and new clients along with responsibility for developing new business.

Working with an existing team, the role is required to deliver:

  1. A strategic selling and business development approach.
  2. Sales opportunity closure.
  3. Networking through both traditional and electronic means (social selling).
  4. On time against agreed targets and objectives.
  5. Negotiation / understanding the differing channel sales requirements.
  6. Commercial problem solving / thinking.

Sales

  1. Lead pro-active sales effort across own territory for the range of products and services.
  2. Telephone appointing and ability to fill own diary with prospect and customer visits.
  3. Implement and execute sales campaigns and activity in target market areas / sectors.
  4. Increase customer engagement to explore for new opportunities in existing customer base.
  5. Develop and maintain key account plans for agreed strategic accounts within territory.

Additional Deliverables

  1. Ability to develop and then manage to a territory plan including interaction with other group sales and business support functions.
  2. Experience of shaping and identifying new marketing collateral and support to drive territory sales.
  3. All opportunities across the account base to be tracked and consistently updated within the company CRM and quote tracking systems.

Experience Required

  1. Experience working in a new business sales role within the electronics products and Systems Integration Infrastructure.
  2. Understanding of and experience of delivering open day and 'lunch & learn' events with clients and prospects.
  3. Understanding of the market sectors in which the role will operate and ability to network successfully within the appropriate industry forums/organisations.
  4. Ideally will have experience of strategic selling within an electronics product or components sector by self and through/with others in a team selling environment.
  5. Proven verbal and written presentation and commercial skills.
  6. Ideally degree educated (or with relevant commercial experience) and with a minimum of 5 years in a customer commercial role.
  7. Experience gained in business development within the defence and/or secure communication sectors.
  8. Where possible, an understanding of the secure communication and/or defence landscape, including key players, market trends, and emerging technologies.
