The Role

We are seeking a Business Development Manager with an established network in Western Australia’s mining and infrastructure sectors. This is a critical role that will drive strategic growth through early engagement, relationship management, and high-quality tender submissions.

Reporting to the General Manager, this role is ideal for a commercially astute individual who understands how work is won and can engage confidently with Tier 1 and Tier 2 clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify upcoming project opportunities through your WA network
  • Develop strong relationships with EPCMs, project managers, and decision-makers
  • Represent Chess at industry events, briefings, and client meetings
  • Lead the preparation of tailored EOIs, tender submissions, and proposals
  • Work closely with estimating and operations to develop competitive, compliant bids
  • Manage submission schedules and ensure quality, timely delivery

Sales & Strategic Input

  • Track WA project pipelines and contribute to go/no-go decisions
  • Provide input into pricing strategies and commercial terms
  • Maintain CRM records and report on activity, leads, and forecasts

Brand Representation

  • Promote Chess Engineering as a preferred fabrication partner in WA
  • Contribute to capability statements and marketing content to support bids

About You

Mandatory Requirements

  • Proven ability to identify upcoming opportunities early through industry relationships
  • Strong existing network across WA mining, infrastructure, and EPCM sectors
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating tenders, EOIs, and technical sales documentation
  • Background in engineering, construction, or fabrication industries
  • Understanding of WA procurement models (EPCM, D&C, Alliancing)
  • Commercial acumen and experience in contract negotiation
  • Technical background in fabrication or project delivery highly regarded
