Job Overview

Fairhill Solicitors is looking for an experienced and commercially minded Business Development Manager to support the continued growth of the firm.

This is a broad commercial role for someone who can identify opportunities, develop new business relationships and turn commercial strategy into measurable results.

Working closely with the Managing Partner and senior members of the firm, you will help develop new markets, strengthen existing client and referral relationships, build strategic partnerships and identify opportunities to increase revenue across our legal services.

We are particularly interested in candidates who bring strong commercial experience from a business development, sales, account management or general commercial management background. Previous experience within a law firm or professional services environment would be advantageous but is not essential.

Duties
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities by researching market trends and customer needs.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to acquire new clients and expand existing accounts.
  • Build and nurture long‑term relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and clients.
  • Utilize CRM software to track leads, manage pipelines, and analyze sales data for informed decision‑making.
  • Collaborate with marketing and product teams to tailor offerings that meet customer demands.
  • Conduct presentations, product demonstrations, and negotiations to close deals effectively.
  • Maintain detailed records of sales activities, client interactions, and follow‑up actions to ensure seamless communication.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement business development initiatives to support the firm’s growth objectives.
  • Identify new commercial opportunities, markets, sectors and client groups.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective clients, introducers and commercial partners.
  • Develop relationships with businesses, professional advisers, consultants, accountants, recruitment businesses and other potential referral partners.
  • Proactively generate new business through networking, direct engagement, partnerships, referrals and other appropriate channels.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key corporate and individual clients.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and introduce clients to other services offered by the firm.
  • Support the development of the firm’s corporate and commercial client base.
  • Develop strategic partnerships and referral arrangements in the UK and internationally.
  • Research markets, competitors and emerging commercial opportunities.
  • Work with the firm’s marketing team to develop campaigns that support business development objectives and lead generation.
  • Contribute to the firm’s positioning, service development and go‑to‑market strategy for new services.
  • Maintain and develop the firm’s CRM and business development pipeline.
  • Monitor leads, conversion rates, revenue opportunities and other key business development metrics.
  • Prepare regular reports and commercial analysis for management.
  • Attend networking events, conferences, business meetings and other external events on behalf of the firm.
  • Work collaboratively with lawyers and other members of the team to convert opportunities into long‑term client relationships.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the firm’s client journey, client retention and overall commercial performance.
Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone with a strong commercial mindset who is comfortable taking ownership of business development rather than simply administering a marketing function.

The successful candidate is likely to have:

  • Significant experience in business development, sales, commercial management, key account management or a related role.
  • A demonstrable track record of developing new business and contributing to revenue growth.
  • Strong experience building and managing senior‑level client and commercial relationships.
  • Experience developing strategic partnerships and referral networks.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship‑management skills.
  • Experience developing and implementing commercial or go‑to‑market strategies.
  • Good understanding of sales pipelines, CRM systems and performance metrics.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to use commercial data to guide decision‑making.
  • The ability to identify opportunities and turn them into practical commercial initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Confidence dealing with business owners, senior executives and professional advisers.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage several commercial initiatives simultaneously.
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial and results‑driven approach.

Experience within legal services, professional services, consultancy, financial services or another relationship‑driven business environment would be beneficial, but candidates from other commercial sectors with strong transferable experience are encouraged to apply.

Experience developing business across international markets or working with an international client base would also be advantageous.

What We Offer

This is an opportunity to join a growing law firm where business development is viewed as a core part of the firm’s strategy rather than simply a marketing support function.

The successful candidate will work directly with senior management and will have the opportunity to influence the firm’s commercial development, build new partnerships and contribute to the expansion of existing and new practice areas.

The role offers significant scope for autonomy and progression as the firm continues to grow.
