Job description

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is seeking a commercially focused Customer Relationship / Business Development Manager to lead the growth and promotion of the Clinical Biotechnology Centre (CBC). CBC offers end-to-end services for the gene therapy sector, including GMP plasmid production, GMP viral vector manufacturing, aseptic fill and finish, and comprehensive Quality Control testing.

This role is critical in managing a pipeline of opportunities and ensuring financial income targets are met. Responsibilities include identifying and developing new business opportunities, nurturing relationships with biotech, pharma, and academic partners, and driving revenue growth. You will work closely with technical and project management teams to align client needs with capabilities, preparing tailored proposals and guiding projects from initial engagement through to contract execution.

Additional duties involve market analysis/horizon scanning and representing NHSBT at key industry events. You will own the business development plans and activities for NHSBT's Clinical Biotechnology Centre, which includes:

1. Developing new business opportunities within biotech, pharma, and academic sectors to increase revenue.
2. Managing and progressing a pipeline to meet income targets.
3. Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers.
4. Collaborating with technical teams to align customer requirements with CBC capabilities.
5. Preparing and presenting proposals to clients, guiding projects from enquiry to contract.
6. Conducting market analysis and competitor activity scans.
7. Representing NHSBT at industry events to promote CBC services.
8. Supporting marketing initiatives to enhance market presence and lead generation.
9. Delivering presentations and pitches to stakeholders.

You will need to travel, including irregular hours and overnight stays with prior notice. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of cell and gene therapy manufacturing, excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, and a proven track record in sales or business development within healthcare or life sciences. A valid UK driving license and flexibility to travel are essential.
