About Canterbury Cathedral

Canterbury Cathedral is the cathedral of the archbishop of Canterbury, the leader of the Church of England and symbolic leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Located in Canterbury, Kent, it is one of the oldest Christian structures in England and forms part of a World Heritage Site.

The Role

Due to continued growth, we are seeking a dynamic and visionary Business Development Manager to lead strategic growth initiatives across our commercial and visitor-facing operations. This is a unique opportunity to shape and influence the future of a world-renowned institution whilst preserving its sacred and cultural legacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Researching the external market and competitors within the market to analyse how Canterbury Cathedral (through its trading subsidiary) can maximise the potential for supplying world class heritage skills to the market.
  • Generating new business by proactively making new relationships, visiting commissioners, identifying tender opportunities and securing business from external clients locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
  • Creating strong relationships with all stakeholders, to ensure that we are their first thought when seeking heritage craft skills.
  • Developing and writing clear, concise, and persuasive bid proposals which are compliant with the tender requirements and guidelines, including formatting, content structure, and submission deadlines.
  • Supporting commercial and operational discussions and contribute strategic and operational insight to proposals.
