Business Development Manager
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week - Flexible start/finish times
Location: Office-based 1 day/week, Field-based 4 days
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 DOE + Car Allowance + Mileage at HMRC rate + Commission Scheme

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to drive growth in the ecommerce parcel and cross-border logistics sector, with a focus on markets including Asia, India, Australia and broader international networks. This role blends strategic opportunity identification with hands-on client engagement, social media interaction and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and develop new strategic business opportunities within ecommerce parcel and cross-border logistics markets.

  • Actively engage on social media platforms to share insights and build brand awareness within international networks.

  • Collaborate with Head Office on social media initiatives to promote best practices.

  • Maintain deep knowledge of the ecommerce, courier, and international export sectors.

  • Proactively reach out to potential customers and effectively position a comprehensive portfolio of logistics services.

  • Build and nurture new business relationships, converting leads into valuable commercial partnerships.

  • Manage ongoing client relationships post-implementation, holding regular business reviews to strengthen strategic partnerships.

  • Negotiate commercial terms with both new and existing customers.

  • Support senior leadership in rolling out UK business strategies through case studies, presentations, social media content, and customer promotions.

  • Educate internal teams on ecommerce sales trends and market intelligence to enhance overall commercial awareness.

  • Represent the business at trade shows and industry events to network and gather market insights.

  • Expand and maintain a network of providers, partners, and group businesses to facilitate cross-selling and collaborative opportunities.

  • Stay informed on market trends and emerging consumer behaviors to anticipate changes and adapt strategies.

  • Establish yourself as a thought leader in cross-border courier and mail logistics, sharing knowledge internally and externally.

  • Become an expert user and advocate for internal business platforms to maximize stakeholder value and support sales efforts.

Experience & Skills Required
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in business development within the courier, ecommerce, or international exports sector.

  • Strong communicator with the ability to adapt messaging for diverse target audiences.

  • Proven track record in managing complex, long sales cycles with effective selling techniques.

  • Self-motivated, independent, proactive, and results-driven with excellent organizational skills.

  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to excellence in brand positioning and client interactions.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment, diplomacy, and the ability to handle sensitive information.

  • Established network within ecommerce and courier customer segments.

  • Proficient in social selling and digital engagement.

  • Exceptional written communication skills.

  • Comfortable with cold outreach and able to quickly establish rapport with prospective clients.

  • Experience working in end-to-end logistics or courier roles preferred; candidates from large global courier organizations (e.g., FedEx, DHL) will not be considered due to differing business models.
