Business Development Manager - Building / Construction – West Midlands + Some Remote Working

LEADING TIER 1 BUILDING MAIN CONTRACTOR

COMPANY:

A reputable regional building main contractor, with a longstanding history and a strong brand in the industry.
Role will be a mix of Birmingham office (near the Airport / NEC), remote work, and client visits.

ROLE:

As Business Development Manager in the West Midlands, you will be responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities. Your primary focus will be on fostering strategic partnerships, cultivating client relationships, and driving revenue growth. You will collaborate closely with our operations and marketing teams to develop and execute effective business development strategies, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.

DUTIES

As Business Development Manager, your duties will include:

  1. Market analysis: carry out market research to identify trends and opportunities. Analyse competitor activities and market dynamics to inform decision making.
  2. Business development strategy: work alongside the Regional Director to develop and implement strategies aligned with regional business plans.
  3. Lead generation: proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities through cold calling, networking events, industry conferences, and digital marketing.
  4. Reporting and analysis: maintain Salesforce CRM, prepare reports and performance metrics to track progress, measure success, and identify areas for improvement, providing regular updates to the board and regional management teams.
  5. Customer reviews: manage and conduct formal customer feedback sessions.
  6. Framework relationships: maintain healthy relationships with relevant account managers for regional frameworks.
  7. Customer relationships: maintain excellent relationships with existing customers and open new relationships, tracking and managing them.
  8. Industry relationships: manage existing relationships with consultants and influencers, and create new industry relationships. Promote the company brand through marketing opportunities and campaigns.
  9. Cross-functional collaboration: work closely with internal stakeholders including operations, commercial, and national and strategic accounts teams to coordinate efforts.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous employment as a Business Development Manager, Business Development Executive, Business Development Coordinator, Marketing Manager, or similar.
  • Experience with main contractors or principal contractors.
  • Established network within the construction industry and public sector client types.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry, market trends, procurement routes, competition, and client needs.
  • Strategic thinker capable of developing actionable growth plans.
  • Proven track record in generating new business through prospecting, networking, and negotiation.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and maintain account plans.
  • Good organizational skills and work ethic.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Strong communication skills, including a clear telephone manner and meeting skills (online and in person).
  • Team player, able to work independently.
  • Driving license.
