Job Description

One of the key UK Government missions is to convert the UK energy generation to net zero. To achieve this, many UK Ports are becoming energy hubs, through the import of ammonia, SAF, or constructing offshore wind turbines and future FLOW turbines.

Another mission is to grow the economy by focusing on exports and the smooth transition of freight entering and leaving the UK. UK ports are investing in infrastructure, and Costain aims to re-establish a Ports Sector focus on infrastructure redevelopment around UK Ports.

The role involves leading, inspiring, and developing business development activities for a Ports business, working collaboratively with Aviation, Transportation, and Energy teams to shape strategy, identify relationships, and secure future work.

Responsibilities
  1. Establish and maintain relationships from board level to operations.
  2. Lead efforts to secure opportunities through partnerships, bidding, and account management.
  3. Maintain key account planning to deliver solutions and win work.
  4. Inform and understand governmental, industry, and UK PLC decision-making processes, representing Costain at relevant levels.
  5. Serve as the point of contact for UK Ports membership.
  6. Develop stakeholder engagement plans, organize events, and ensure industry recognition and understanding of customer challenges.
  7. Coordinate market research and analyze customer needs.
  8. Provide market feedback and generate development ideas.
  9. Monitor competitor strategies to stay ahead.
Qualifications
  • Ability to understand and interpret client needs.
  • Effective communication with clients and partners, translating ideas into solutions.
  • Experience in leading integrated delivery teams on time and within budget.
  • Knowledge of Project 13 / ISO 44001 principles.
  • Ability to operate in a political environment.
  • Comfort with budget and P&L accountability.
  • Proficiency in engaging with clients and colleagues at all levels, including board level.
  • Line management experience and senior leadership involvement.
  • Significant account management and relationship management experience at director/board level.
