This is an opportunity to take a lead role in driving crime prevention and public safety initiatives, working alongside key city stakeholders to create a better and safer environment.

You’d be joining our small, focused and dedicated team who are passionate about improving the city centre for everyone.

The Role:

The Business Crime and Safety Liaison Officer will deliver crime reduction guidance and directly support the reporting of crime on behalf of city centre businesses that are within the Peterborough Positive boundary area.

The position plays a vital role in liaison with key partners including Cambridgeshire Constabulary and Peterborough City Council and other organisations in the sharing of trends and data to reduce business crime and improve the perception of safety for city centre residents, businesses, consumers and workers.

This role will work predominately with daytime economy businesses and include supporting the nighttime economy with regular visits/audits.

There will be a responsibility to work closely with key partners and implement crime and safety projects, initiatives and training for businesses.

A key element of the role is ensuring Peterborough Positive voices - on behalf of the business community - concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour, and works with agencies to provide solutions to tackle challenges the city centre faces.

This includes increasing our input into supporting PubWatch and leading on the Safety and Security Forum.

Another key responsibility of this post is to manage the online crime reporting tool (Disc) and supporting businesses with their effective use of the system, so that crime and anti-social behaviour is captured in a clear and timely way for police to follow-up.

The role will be reporting to the Peterborough Positive Chief Operating Officer.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS Check.

Responsibilities:

  • Help to raise the profile of Peterborough Positive by being highly visible.
  • Manage the online crime reporting tool (Disc) and supporting businesses with their effective use of the system, so that crime and anti-social behaviour is captured in a clear and timely way for police to follow-up.
  • Act as a key point of contact for businesses, helping them access crime prevention resources.
  • Be the interface between Peterborough Positive and businesses, including the organisation of training, support and regular briefings.
  • Engage with businesses to support the reporting of crime and collect data on crime trends.
  • Create reports to submit to the Chief Operating Officer to address business concerns to the police.
  • Deliver business crime updates to businesses through attendance to key groups such as PubWatch.
  • Continuously assess what is required to make the city centre more welcoming and safer for visitors, both during the day and at night.
  • Work with businesses, police and the local authority to identify and implement measures such as improved lighting, security patrols, wayfinding, and safe spaces.
  • Work with homelessness prevention services, outreach teams, and local charities to ensure a coordinated response to rough sleeping.
  • Work with businesses and authorities to tackle issues related to professional begging, finding appropriate interventions that balance enforcement with support.
  • Promote responsible citizenship in respect of litter, graffiti and related issues.
  • Use appropriate tools and equipment, including a security radio, apps and a business database.
  • Adhere to the uniform policy, standards of presentation and Peterborough Positive’s dress code.
  • Attend training courses (at the company’s expense) as and when required to achieve a satisfactory level of attainment.
  • Distribute literature on behalf of Peterborough Positive as required.
  • Input daily activity logs into Peterborough Positive’s database platform.
  • Assist the wider Peterborough Positive team in the delivery of initiatives and events, including on the day support.
  • Completing any other duties as deemed appropriate and delegated by the line manager from time to time.

Person Specification:

  • A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and enjoys being out in the field engaging with businesses.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to produce reports and recommendations.
  • Comfortable working in a face to face on-street capacity and in uniform.
  • Strong work ethic with flexible attitude to duties, hours and working in all weather conditions.
