Job description

Mills & Reeve has an excellent opportunity to join as a Business Continuity Manager to be based primarily in our Birmingham or Cambridge office. In this newly created role, you will have theopportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders across a Top 40 Regional Law Firm.

The role

Mills & Reeve is dedicated to ensuring the resilience and stability of business operations by safeguarding the Firm against disruptions and ensuring a high standard of service. We are recruiting a Business Continuity Manager to ensure that the Firm's critical operations can continue or quickly resume in the event of disruption.

While Business Continuity has already been a key part of our risk management profile we are in the process of obtaining ISO 22301 certification and the Business Continuity Manager will be central to the ongoing maintenance and improvement of our Business Continuity Management System (BCMS).

The person

Given the responsibilities of this position, it is likely your background demonstrates:

  • Proven experience in Business Continuity Planning, risk management, or a similar role
  • Strong analytical skills to assess risks and develop effective solutions
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Skill to handle multiple tasks and prioritise effectively
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or ISO 22301 Lead implementer are a plus
The activities
  • The day-to-day operation and maintenance of the BCMS including strategy and solutions planning
  • Ensuring the BCMS conforms to the Business Continuity requirements of the organisation and the Business Continuity Policy
  • Ensuring the BCMS is compliant with the ISO 22301:2019 Standard and we retain certification through audits and recertification as needed
  • Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and industry standards, related to business continuity and disaster recovery
  • Facilitating and coordinating the regular review of the business impact analysis (“BIA”), risk assessments and BC plans and testing these throughout the organisation
  • Ensuring the Business Continuity Policy and all related procedures, documents and guidance are regularly reviewed and updated/amended as necessary, remain compliant with relevant regulations and standards and all BCMS documents are accessible
  • Facilitating evaluations and testing of the BCMS
  • Seeking ways to continually improve and enhance the performance and functionality of the BCMS
  • Undertaking a key role with incident responses and arranging for mock incidents to be undertaken
  • Establishing clear communication channels and protocols for use during a disruption to maintain the flow of information
  • Conducting post-incident reviews (including mock incidents) to analyse the effectiveness of the response and to make necessary adjustments to plans and strategies

To develop, and where necessary deliver, training courses to staff /partners on business continuity. This includes regularly reviewing the effectiveness of business continuity training delivered to those with business continuity roles as detailed in our roles and responsibilities.

  • To establish and demonstrate commitment to the Business Continuity Policy
  • To coordinate with other teams and departments in relation to the BCMS
  • Creating and maintaining detailed records of incidents and responses, preparing reports for senior management (including the Annual Management Review report) and advising on improvements to the BCMS
