Working hours and office requirements:

This is a hybrid role with a requirement to travel to the base office and other Starling offices, as well as customer premises and other relevant business locations when necessary. The SME team will be available to support Monday to Friday - 8am to 8.30pm, and Saturday and Sunday (8am to 6pm). We will operate an on-call model for emergencies outside of these hours and during Bank Holidays.

We are expanding our digital services to UK SMEs to provide a revolutionary banking experience. We need a team of business specialists to support our SME customers by providing dedicated customer service with accountability for sales, service, risk, and operational delivery. This role involves both external and internal stakeholder engagement.

Key activities will include:

  • Business verification: engaging with newly onboarded businesses and those updating their KYB or KYC information or changing ownership. Understanding the business and contributing to risk assessments. Ensuring Starling’s KYB is current and decisions align with our risk appetite.
  • Applying understanding of Starling’s risk appetite in reviews, identifying new scenarios requiring review or challenge, and supporting policy changes to better serve customers.
  • Supporting payment reviews, which are time-critical and crucial for customer trust. Assisting in risk assessments and checks to balance customer outcomes with regulatory compliance.
  • Providing additional support to customers when needed, exceeding digital-first expectations, and working with the team to develop new solutions.
  • Assisting colleagues with referrals involving investment payments and business closures, including customer calls and analysis of supporting information.
  • Gaining insights into customer trends and behaviors to inform feedback and improve our services.
  • Building a strong KBI network through regional events, raising brand awareness, and establishing key external relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Seeking new opportunities and nurturing existing relationships to grow business.
  • Performing proactive risk assessments and customer due diligence.
  • Supporting onboarding processes for new and existing clients.
  • Providing end-to-end customer support and resolving complex queries.
  • Managing customer inquiries within agreed timescales, ensuring positive outcomes and effective feedback handling.
  • Becoming an SME business expert, understanding banking, Starling products, and the fintech landscape.
  • Understanding local business challenges and potential solutions, acting as a subject matter expert.
  • Being aware of macroeconomic factors and the competitive landscape impacting businesses.
  • Acting as a brand ambassador and developing Starling’s profile in the community.

Requirements:

  • Experience in Business/Corporate Banking or Financial Services.
  • Confident communication with key stakeholders, aiming to improve banking experiences.
  • Supportive attitude to offering excellent service to SMEs and helping them grow.
  • Dedication to improving our proposition through teamwork and collaboration.
  • Passion for understanding and supporting businesses.
  • Strong teamwork skills, working closely with colleagues and the wider bank.
