Business Area Director

Position Overview:

This position requires a broad range of airline operational experience, including but not limited to customer service, operations, maintenance, flight operations, facility requirements, airport management, and safety/regulatory requirements. This position will be responsible for a specific business line, but must be able to assist other Business Areas as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

  1. Drives change management initiatives and implementation of strategic plans and components of the company;
  2. Ensures the appropriate standards of safety, training, and security are achieved in line with corporate requirements, regulatory requirements, international best practices, and customer requirements;
  3. Is a strong communicator who is able to articulate the best interests of the organization both internal and external. Additionally, must have a practical understanding of the required degree of sensitivity in dealings with all parties;
  4. Partners with Corporate team to ensure changes to programs, policies, and systems that affect operational responsibilities or performance are implemented and communicated as soon as feasible to applicable management, front line personnel and support staff;
  5. Monitors operational performance through analysis of numbers and metrics. Must be able to address process improvement to increase efficiencies across the business;
  6. This role focuses on the expansion and growth of QAS air cargo logistics to include mail, enhancing infrastructure efficiency, attracting cargo-focused customers, developing KPIs to measure success.
  7. Develop and implement strategies to improve air cargo operations, optimize processes, and meet customer needs.
  8. Assist with the identification and pursuit of new business opportunities, negotiate contracts, and build strong customer relationships.
  9. Direct and oversee a team of managers and other employees, providing guidance, training, and support.
  10. Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of air cargo and mail facilities, including warehousing, handling, and transportation (RFS Trucking)
  11. Stay abreast of and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  12. Address customer inquiries and concerns, ensuring a positive customer experience.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or related field required;
  • 7-10 years of experience in managing a ground, cargo, passenger service or material handling operation OR an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Strong understanding of financials (budgets, P&L, forecasting);
  • Thorough understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, the office equipment, recordkeeping systems, management information systems, and related protocols used in the organization;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Professional and tactful interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a variety of personalities;
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines;
  • Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software;
  • A valid driver's license is required for this position.

Work Environment:

  • Indoor office environment with the potential of remaining seated for extended periods of time;
  • Continuous use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse;
  • Warehouse - physically strenuous, prolonged periods of time standing with exposure to noise (may be excessive at times), safe but potentially unpleasant odors, varying temperatures and humidity, in and around heavy moving equipment.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to carry, push, pull, lift up to 25 pounds and operate office equipment as necessary.
