We are News UK Technology: using technology to innovate and lead the global conversation on the future of media and storytelling. We keep people at the heart of our business through value-driven and inclusive practices enabling our staff to grow and thrive. As such, we are proud members of Tech Talent Charter UK with 34% of our Tech roles filled by gender minorities. News UK Tech is an award-winning team, winning Team of the Year at the UK Business and Innovation Awards, 2023.

The Team: The Times informs, entertains, campaigns and innovates. Our technology team is at the heart of this innovation and helps support a highly creative, multi-channel media operation that has a heritage of modernity, of being first and creating change.

Your Role: We’re looking for a Business Analyst to join The Times Media team to work with development teams to translate product visions into requirements and solutions that can be successfully delivered and will help enhance the reader experience. We are currently building out interactive capabilities across Puzzles and capabilities which will help with how we tell stories to our readers.

Business Analysts are at the heart of our most exciting initiatives to ensure alignment between business goals and technical implementations.

Day to day you will:

Engage in business analysis activities that ensure that we continue to develop and improve our widely recognised media products to support the immediate and longer term business needs

Conduct in-depth analysis during the discovery phase on prioritised initiatives. This may also include working with dependent tech teams to understand and illustrate how work sequences together across larger cross-team deliverables

Ensuring requirements are broken down and clearly articulated into well defined epics and user stories that can be prioritised according to their clearly outlined business value

Facilitating the delivery phase and helping to define any new or changing requirements in a clear and transparent way

Ensure there is feedback to the team and key business stakeholders when key stories are delivered which helps to articulate the value that has been created.

You should also expect to actively research best practice and strategic direction within the industry and find ways to share this back into the team. Part of your role will also include contributing and maintaining the quality of BA standards and practices as part of the BA community.

What we’re looking for from you:

Experience in eliciting requirements through various techniques which can include workshops, interviews and shadowing.

Experience in creating comprehensive documentation, including functional specifications, user stories, and use cases, to clearly communicate requirements (outlining business value, risks, assumptions and constraints) to development teams and business stakeholders where required.

Experience facilitating conversations outlining potential solutions and prioritising options based on business value or required outcomes.

If you think you have what it takes but don’t tick every requirement on the list, please do apply. We recognise that considering someone’s potential as well as their experience is a great way to hire. We want to hear from people who have a passion to learn and develop.
