Job summary

Are you an experienced Business Analyst with the skills and capability to help support DWP Staff in the delivery of critical public services?

As a Business Analyst in DWP Digital you will play a key role in delivering change within the department.

We have vacancies in a number of areas within DWP Digital including:

  • Bereavement and Care services - responsible for running and transforming digital services for some of our most vulnerable citizens.
  • Working Age Services - delivers services to help people find work, progress in work, and support those who are vulnerable or unable to work.
  • Retirement Digital - has responsibility for multiple services providing key support to citizens in the lead up to and beyond State Pension age.
  • Health & Disability Service - including, the ongoing Digital transformation supporting the Access to Work grant; digital end to end transformation of a DLA Child Benefit; developing a new digital service to help medical practitioners to provide critical information to DWP for terminally ill people and continuous improvement and support services to ensure business needs are met.
  • Collaboration and Communication Service - managing a range of products mainly focused on the Microsoft 365 suite including the adoption of Microsoft Copilot generative AI capabilities within DWP.
  • Citizen Information - responsible for maintaining and protecting personal information, alongside delivering innovative solutions to maximise data solutions within DWP.
  • The Garage - an innovative team working within DWP Digital to create robust solutions. Utilising everything from Robotic Processing up to Generative AI.
  • Fraud & Error Digital - working closely with counter-fraud practitioners and stakeholders across DWP to develop and maintain effective fraud and error solutions.
  • Health and Disability Delivery Team and the Functional Assessment Service - responsible for the management of several IT assets supporting DWP's most vulnerable customers
You will be given the opportunity to continue to grow your capabilities skills and knowledge through working with Senior/ Lead BAs and the support of the wider community of practice.

You may also, be responsible for managing Junior (Associate) BAs to develop your management and coaching skills.

Please note - As part of the role, you may be required to travel regularly to the other digital hubs. The frequency of this will be discussed further should you be successful.

Job description

As a BA working within DWP Digital, you will:

Working within a transformational multi-disciplinary team, alongside roles including User Researchers, Developers & QAs.

May be working within either an Agile or more traditional delivery team.

Translate business problems and user needs into a set of detailed requirements to deliver value and great outcomes for our users.

Lead workshops, interviews, focus groups and utilise other BA techniques to effectively understand the business problems and user needs.

Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships. communicating effectively across both technical and business stakeholders and ensuring the understanding

of requirements and acceptance criteria is aligned.

Gain a good understanding of the business processes and activities that impact and that are impacted by the product or service. Selecting the appropriate best practice techniques to model business processes, in order to identify potential process improvements.

Collaborate with the Product Owner to agree a suitable mix of epics, features & stories for each sprint, as well as contributing towards prioritisation activities.

Take ownership for improving your own knowledge of Business Analysis tools and techniques and will play an active role within the BA community including coaching and supporting other members, as appropriate.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. Salary Information

Pay for this role in London is from £48,468 to £49,906.

Pay for this role in national locations is from £42,614 to £45,081.

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

Stage 1: Application

Your application will consist of five parts:

1. A Personal Details application form.

2. Civil Service Verbal Test.

After submission of the first stage of your application you will be invited to complete the Civil Service Verbal Test. If you successfully pass the test, you will be invited to complete the final stages of the application.

Please complete the online test as soon as possible (within 24-48 hours is recommended). The closing date for a fully completed application is 07/05/25 at 23:55hrs. Please allow sufficient time to complete the online test and your full written application before the deadline. IMPORTANT INFORMATION - online tests

Our online test supplier will be performing scheduled maintenance between Friday 2nd and Sunday 4th May 2025. There will be up to 48 hours during this time where candidates will not be able to access tests. This is an extended outage to support a system data cleanse.

The maintenance window will start at 9.00pm on Friday 2nd May, and is expected to end by midday on Sunday 4th May 2025.

All online tests will be affected.

Candidate Impact

Candidates who are taking a test when the downtime starts will have their test paused. They will be able to pick up where they left off after the downtime. They can do this by accessing the test again from their application centre.

Candidates will not be able to launch new tests during the downtime.

Candidates reporting issues should be advised to return to take the test after midday on Sunday 4th May.

Following successful completion of the test, you will then be asked to complete:

3. Employment history - this should contain your work experience and any skills, qualifications and accomplishments relevant to the jobs you have completed.

4. Personal statement - up to 500 words. This statement should be used to provide examples of how you meet the essential criteria below:
  • Demonstrate significant experience of working as a Business Analyst and evidence of carrying out a wide range of analysis activities.
5. Technical statement (up to 250 words). The following statement is aligned to the required technical skill of Business Analysis.

The sift panel will use the information in your employment history, personal statement, and technical statement to assess your experience, skills and knowledge.

An initial sift will be conducted using the technical statement. Candidates who pass the initial sift will be progressed to a full sift.
