Proud members of Tech Talent Charter UK, with 34% of our tech roles filled by gender minorities, we are an award-winning team, recognized as Team of the Year at the UK Business and Innovation Awards, 2023.

As News UK embarks on a new data growth chapter, with our AI strategy and expanding need for data-powered product growth, our Data team must be well-structured to respond effectively.

The Data Technology team operates across London, Sofia, and Bangalore, developing data platforms, front-end data products, and predictive models to support newsroom editors, marketing, advertising, and product teams with innovative technical solutions that underpin our global news delivery.

We seek an experienced (mid-level) Business Analyst to join our team.

Your Role: Your main focus will be on our 1st party data warehouse and data sources, a core part of our data landscape. You may also support other workstreams involving AI, consumer-facing data products, data collection, and governance.

You will be key in understanding and clarifying stakeholder requirements, supporting successful delivery using modern technologies like BigQuery and Google Cloud Platform. Collaborating with technical teams, product managers, and stakeholders, you will foster shared understanding, ensure smooth communication, and maintain strong relationships. You will ensure backlogs are high quality and aligned with business value, perform in-depth analysis, and support the presentation of delivered work highlighting its value to both business and technical audiences.

Day-to-day you will:

  • Work with squads and stakeholders to elicit, record, manage, and refine requirements.
  • Use BA techniques, data, and analytical approaches to assess feasibility and viability.
  • Ensure alignment on scope, requirements, and progress during implementation, resolving issues as they arise.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships within teams and stakeholders.
  • Contribute actively to the BA discipline within the Data team and wider organization.

What we're looking for from you:

Business Analysis:

  • Experience in business analysis within Agile environments.
  • Experience in digital data environments such as reporting, data visualization, data-driven applications, or AI/data science.
  • Ability to elicit, analyze, and manage requirements within commercial contexts.
  • Proficiency in documenting requirements and solutions for diverse stakeholders.
  • Facilitation skills between technical and business teams.
  • Ability to oversee and mentor junior colleagues.
  • Contribution to developing BA best practices.

Data Technologies:

  • Experience with analytics, data-driven applications, AI/data science, or recommendation/personalization products.
  • Experience with cloud-based data warehouses like GCP.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts: data flows, ETL, data marts, dimensional modeling, data quality.
  • Strong SQL skills and ability to interrogate diverse data sources.
  • Ability to analyze data for cost-benefit and feasibility, validate requirements, and support prioritization.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Ability to build and manage relationships with business and technology stakeholders.
  • Promote collaborative working methods.
  • Work closely with product and project managers.
  • Present technical and non-technical material clearly.
  • Represent technology teams in organizational discussions.

Agile Delivery:

  • Experience across the technology delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience in agile/iterative environments like SCRUM or Kanban.
  • Ability to lead project delivery independently.
  • Support technical teams through development.
  • Manage work amidst evolving requirements and priorities.
  • Support multiple initiatives by understanding their purpose and value.

If you believe you have the potential and passion to learn and grow, we encourage you to apply, even if you don't meet every listed requirement.
