Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and dependable individual to join our Project Management Team at Angel Solutions!

In this role, you'll work closely with a key client to propose and negotiate future product features, balancing the evolving landscape of the educational sector with the needs and responsibilities of local authorities, requiring strategic foresight and adaptability.

You will collaborate with Client Directors and engage extensively with internal stakeholders across Angel Solutions, including the Senior Leadership Team, Project Management, Data, Design, Test, and Development teams. Your focus will be on gathering and refining requirements, writing clear and detailed specifications, and working with the Project Managers to ensure proposed developments are prioritised, delivered within scope, and on budget.

With the educational sector constantly evolving, this role requires a dynamic and iterative approach, including regular reviews with the client to adapt to changing needs and priorities.

The role is open to hybrid working, typically working a minimum of 2 days in our offices in central Liverpool – the successful candidate must therefore live within commuting distance of Liverpool.

This role is a key part of our small Project Management team, reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager and collaborating closely with colleagues to deliver great results.

Key Tasks And Responsibilities Include

The role holder will be required to:

  1. Document the needs of the Client into specifications suitable for two key audiences: technical and non-technical.
  2. Translate a short brief supplied by the Client into a specification and implementation plan, co-ordinating the production of visual prototypes of potential developments (with the help of our Design and Development teams) and presenting various creative options internally and to the Client, where necessary.
  3. Stay informed on changes occurring within the education space with a focus on data and assessment.
  4. Understand the roles, duties and needs of the user base: local authority senior leadership, educational data analysts, school improvement officers and social care. This understanding ensures the developments are appropriate to the audience.
  5. Understand the development process and the technologies which underpin a web application. Knowing the capabilities of our infrastructure helps to instinctively gauge how feasible or costly a suggested development would be.
  6. After considering a Client development need, flag potential implementation issues, technical or otherwise, that may not occur naturally to them.
  7. Maintain regular contact with the Client, as part of a wider Angel team, to discuss project ideas, specifications, development progress, budgetary expenditure, capacity and any other relevant items.
  8. Possess strong numerical and commercial acumen, enabling you to contribute to and critically review financial and budget reports developed in collaboration with the project management team.
  9. Review the monthly project reports covering development effort spent, project summaries, upcoming developments and more, for internal and external audiences.
  10. Engage with the Client steering group and other representatives to gather feedback and insights, incorporating this knowledge into proposed product developments.
  11. Occasional UK travel and flexibility in working hours may be required, with notice provided to support work-life balance.
  12. Maintain regular contact with the development team to explain specifications, understand where requirements clarification is required, assist with estimation and capacity planning activity as part of the project management team.
  13. Make the case for developments & the resolution of technical debt, including Feature Requests.
  14. Lead on release and deployment management, working closely with internal teams to ensure client priorities and deadlines are met.
  15. Liaise with support team to progress Client issues and Product Feature Requests.
  16. Work with our communications team to identify potential communications, review their development and liaise with the Client on their implementation.
Desirable Requirements

Previous knowledge and experience of any of the following is also desirable:

  • Jira issue management and reporting
  • Confluence
  • Project management and reporting
  • Collaborating with in-house teams to develop detailed and actionable specifications.
  • Prior experience working within the English education system, particularly in roles involving educational data or local authority processes.
