How would you like to serve as a strategic advisor to the SVP for HSE & Carbon?
The Business Advisor to the SVP HSE & C is responsible for maximising the effectiveness of the SVP through direct and indirect support. The role forms a central part of the leadership team and is key in helping to drive performance across the broad range of HSE&C topics; from modern slavery to net zero operations; process safety to biodiversity and industrial hygiene to risk management to name a few.
You will work closely with the SVP, attending executive level meetings, frequently visiting our operating sites and participate in industry meetings.
Although this role sits within P&O, it provides the unique opportunity to work across the whole of bp.
Maximise the SVP’s impact in meeting / events by organising and preparing for key meetings and providing preparation materials (briefings, presentations etc.).
Support the SVP in the overall management and performance of HSE&C, whilst anticipating, responding and integrating input and direction to functional activities.
Provide the SVP with insights, feedback and pulse of the Function; interface with line peers to improve alignment.
Facilitating leadership team meetings by creating and maintaining the forward agenda, providing materials in advance of meetings, managing adherence to the agenda, capturing action items and following up on status.
Plan and manage the SVP’s yearly plan of meetings, events and regional visits aligning with bp activity and priorities.
Supporting SVP with external engagements including IOGP, SPE and relationships with universities.
Be a partner; communicate and enable the performance management of the organisation, including Townhalls, Performance Reviews, Leadership Team (LT) and Extended Leadership Team (ELT) meeting and events, including the development of materials and agenda.
Work with members of the LT to set priorities and provide input into key processes (planning, costs, performance contracts).
Develop and compile high quality papers for submission to the Board, Executive and other partners.
Assist leadership in communications, including speeches and presentations, to clearly convey messages to the organisation and stakeholders.
Act as a liaison by establishing relationships with the Leadership Team to ensure connectivity in support of overall business objectives
Network amongst the ELT as well as others to connect ideas and bring them into action.
Engage and build relationships with BA’s and Chiefs of Staff from other Executive office’s, acting as a single point of contact for HSE&C
Develop clear, concise communication materials
Work closely with Personal Assistant to prioritise calendar, time and agenda for the SVP office
University Degree educated.
Excellent English writing skills.
Technical depth in either HSE&C, engineering or operations.
Proven experience driving change initiatives and navigating change.
Exceptional organising skills, ability to execute, drive and make rapid interventions as needed to avoid surprises.
Ability to quickly build and sustain deep networks – upwards, with peers, with broader organisation etc.
Excellent communications skills - written and verbal.
Trusted advisor – demonstrated ability to serve as a trusted advisor, sounding board, thinking partner with Strict adherence to confidentiality, data privacy, and discretion.
Time management, systematic and strong organisational skills.
Working quickly and accurately under pressure. Resilience.
Communication skills (written and oral).
Strong emotional quotient (EQ).
A key member of the HSE&C leadership team.
Will gain a good knowledge of a huge breadth of HSE&C topics.
Work closely and learn directly from bp executives senior and leaders.
Requires ability to openly challenge and speak-up.
