We are expanding our team and can offer two new opportunities to join our PSV Motor team as Technician.

Based at our modern Newquay workshop, we provide fleet maintenance and repair services to one of the leading bus operators in the country, servicing a large fleet of around buses that operate throughout Cornwall.

We are looking for skilled, reliable, and motivated individuals with a motor background to join our busy team. If you are currently working outside of the bus industry, such as a car motor technician, we provide in-house upskilling and training to support your development.

About the role

In this role, you will:

  • be responsible for maintaining fleet vehicles to DVSA and customer standards
  • undertake a variety of tasks from routine servicing and filter changes, diagnosing and rectifying mechanical and electrical faults, through to light body repair, fabrication, and welding
  • diligently carry out routine safety inspections of vehicles to DVSA and customer standards and document work electronically (operating workshop software)
  • work with manufacturer diagnostic equipment and repair procedures
  • attend roadside breakdowns to help keep buses running in service; also attending outstations to repair minor defects found by drivers
  • ensure that all works undertaken are carried out in accordance with Health & Safety Policy and Fleet Engineering Workshops Safe Working and Quality Assurance procedures, whilst also in a timely manner on a ‘first time fix’ basis
  • be responsible for and ensure that equipment used within the workshop is maintained in a safe condition and uphold good workshop housekeeping
  • work together and communicate well with our friendly team, apprentices, other departments, and customer staff to ensure smooth operation

If you are from a car background and upskilling is required for you to confidently work on buses - and we currently have several Technicians who have come through this route - the salary offered will be revised whilst training is undertaken.

About you

You will ideally bring to the role:

  • a City & Guilds (level or higher) or NVQ equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • previous experience as a skilled mechanic, working in a vehicle/bus or plant repair workshop (or in an equivalent trade environment)
  • an understanding of and experience with relevant industry documentation
  • knowledge of COSHH & Health and Safety at Work Act
  • be a qualified/certified MOT Tester and ‘O’ Licence inspector, or demonstrate a willingness to achieve this
  • a full UK Driving Licence
  • a full basic motor toolkit (tool allowance is paid)

Our offer to you

Salary: £, (with overtime available at £ per hour plus a generous tool allowance)

Base: Newquay, Cornwall

Working Hours: hours per week

Shift Pattern: Early shift (: - :) / Late shift (: – :) - days-on shift, days-off shift rotation

Working with us, you will have an employee benefits package that includes:

  • Generous pension scheme with employer contribution
  • Employee discount scheme and wellbeing events
  • Holiday starting at days and increasing to with service (pro-rata if part-time) with an option to purchase additional days, plus bank holidays
  • Investment and support in your continuous training and development
  • Opportunity to become a Safeguarding Advocate, Health & Wellbeing Champion, and Mental Health First Aider
