Job summary

Stonewater is seeking a Building Surveyor (Homes Business Partner) to join our Damp and Mould team on a fixed-term contract to May 2027. The role is hybrid, based around Reading/Surrey, with travel to locations in the South East and occasional national meetings.

You will inspect properties to diagnose damp and mould, order and track works, and collaborate with partner contractors while ensuring compliance with Decent Homes and safety standards. A Right to Work and DBS process may apply.

Qualifications

• Educated to minimum HNC level or equivalent in construction, housing, management or property.
• Knowledge of building pathology and diagnosing damp and mould.
• Proven experience delivering a maintenance service.
• Understanding of Decent Homes requirements.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of building components, diagnosis of building defects, building/contract law, building regulations, housing law.
• Strong attention to detail and recording information.

Building Surveyor - Damp, Mould & Disrepair (South East)

Location: Hybrid Reading/Surrey

Salary: £45,000 per year

Vacancy Type: Fixed Term Contract to May 2027 (37.5 hours per week)

Here at Stonewater, we have the perfect opportunity for a Building Surveyor (known internally as Homes Business Partner) to join our specialist Damp and Mould team on a fixed term contract until May 2027.

Reporting into the Service Manager, you will be responsible for resolving cases of damp, mould and disrepair. This will involve carrying out inspections, virtually and in person, to diagnose the cause of damp, mould and disrepairs, ordering works, tracking cases to completion and working with colleagues across Homes and our Partnering Contractors where you require specialist input. In addition, you will be responsible for tracking HHSRS actions to make sure our homes are safe.

The ideal candidate will

• Be educated to minimum HNC level or equivalent professional experience/qualification in construction, housing, management or property.
• Have knowledge and experience in building pathology and be able to diagnose cause of damp and mould.
• Have proven experience of delivering a maintenance service
• Have good understanding of Decent Homes requirements.
• Have good written/ verbal communication skills.
• Have knowledge of building components, diagnosis of building defects, building/contract law, building regulations, housing law.
• Have strong attention to detail and understands the importance of recording all relevant information.

The role will be home based but there will be an expectation to travel to locations within the South East and attend national meetings as required. Due to demand and stock locations, candidates will ideally live within Reading/Surrey.

Appointment to this role will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (if applicable), satisfactory references and possession of a valid Right to Work document.

This role may require specific qualifications, skills, knowledge, and behaviours to meet the Competence and Conduct Standard for Social Housing. If not already qualified, there may be an expectation to study towards a professional qualification.
