Job description

As part of the surveying team, the postholder will deal with all aspects of building surveying across both the private and public sector, managing projects to ensure they are completed within agreed timeframes and to budget. Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing technical and advisory guidance.
  2. Preparing specifications and drawings.
  3. Carrying out risk assessments for improvement and refurbishment projects.
  4. Preparing tender documents.
  5. Undertaking site monitoring of contracts, ensuring compliance and quality control.
  6. Conducting site surveys for completing detailed building condition surveys, schedules of condition, dilapidations, measured surveys, planned maintenance, and defect analysis.
  7. Preparing technical reports with clarity of findings and recommendations.
  8. Carrying out reinstatement cost assessments.
  9. Ensuring housing trusts comply with legislation.
  10. Identifying new business opportunities.
  11. Reporting any suspicions including AML and GDPR breaches.

The successful candidate will be a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or equivalent, and will be working or prepared to work towards MRICS status. Minimum qualifications include:

  1. A degree or equivalent in a Building Surveying related discipline.
  2. A current site card or prepared to attain one.
  3. At least 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  4. Demonstrable experience using MS Office 365.
  5. Excellent understanding of Building Regulations and other construction and building surveying related legislation, including health and safety legislation such as Management in Construction (Jersey) Regulation 2016, and risks associated with asbestos and legionella.

The candidate should be able to prioritize and see the bigger picture, make tough decisions, and use initiative. They should be able to work independently and unsupervised, be positive towards technological change and process improvement, and possess excellent communication, time management, analytical, and organizational skills. A self-starter and team player is essential.
