Building Surveyor – South West Council (Communities & Housing Directorate)£37 per hour PAYE - £47perhour/ Umbrella / Deemed LTD (Inside IR35)37 hours per week3–6 Month Contract
We are currently recruiting for a
Building Surveyor on behalf of a local authority in the South West. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team within the Communities & Housing Directorate, reporting to the Corporate Buildings Manager. You’ll take the lead in delivering capital and planned maintenance projects across a varied portfolio of corporate and listed buildings.

Responsibilities- Lead the design, development, and delivery of capital and planned maintenance schemes.
- Prepare feasibility studies, technical designs, specifications, and contract documentation.
- Administer construction contracts from inception to completion, ensuring value for money.
- Conduct a range of building surveys, including condition, dilapidation, and structural assessments.
- Maintain budgetary control and ensure works comply with relevant legislation and CDM 2015 regulations.
- Engage with tenants, leaseholders, and service users through public meetings and consultations.
- Respond to correspondence from stakeholders including tenants, councillors, and MPs.
- Supervise junior staff, placements or agency workers as required.
- Champion health and safety and support equality, diversity, and continuous improvement.
Requirements- HNC in Building Studies (or equivalent).
- Accredited training in AutoCAD and Health & Safety.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Proven track record delivering capital and planned maintenance projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction health & safety, CDM 2015, building regulations, and listed building consent processes.
- Skilled in budget management, project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and risk resolution.
- Competent in building pathology, identifying deterioration, and specifying remedial works.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
Desirable Experience- Experience with local authority frameworks and procurement processes.
- Familiarity with asbestos regulations and survey responsibilities.
- Confident chairing meetings and presenting technical information to varied audiences.
