About the role

Forest of Dean District Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Building Surveyor to join our Property and Assets team. Reporting to the Assets Manager, you will take a lead role in delivering expert building surveying services across the Council’s diverse property portfolio. You’ll contribute to the strategic development of property services, ensuring high standards in service delivery, financial management, performance, and compliance with regulations.

As the Council’s lead professional on building surveying matters, your responsibilities will include conducting condition surveys, identifying building defects, planning and managing maintenance programmes, and advising on acquisitions and disposals. You’ll liaise with stakeholders across the Council, present expert reports, and play a key role in shaping property-related decisions. This is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity for someone looking to make a real impact in the public sector property environment.

You will need

  • A degree level education in a surveying or property field, or equivalent through relevant training and/or work experience.
  • Relevant professional surveying qualification e.g. RICS, CIOB or equivalent experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of property surveying methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of statutory regulations and best practice relevant to surveying and property matters.
  • Minimum of five years building surveying experience.
  • Experience of appointing and directing contractors and consultants.
  • Experience of procurement processes and contract selection and management, such as JCT suite.

Special Conditions

  • Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle for work purposes
  • BPSS check
