Anyone can identify a problem. The real skill is knowing how to solve it.
A building tells a story. Understanding what's wrong, why it's happened and what needs to be done about it takes experience, technical judgement and the ability to see the bigger picture.
Blackedge Consulting is working closely with an established and growing multidisciplinary property, design and engineering consultancy in Portsmouth, looking to strengthen its Building Surveying team.
This is an opportunity to move beyond simply identifying defects and producing reports, becoming a trusted adviser to clients and working alongside experienced professionals across different technical disciplines.
You'll be involved in a varied portfolio of building surveying instructions, supporting clients with the condition, performance, maintenance and ongoing improvement of their properties.
From investigating building defects and recommending remedial solutions through to supporting refurbishment projects, you'll have the opportunity to use your technical knowledge to make a tangible difference.
Your involvement will include:
We're keeping an open mind on experience levels, recognising that good Building Surveyors develop their expertise through a variety of projects and environments.
You might be an Assistant Building Surveyor ready for greater responsibility, an established Building Surveyor looking for more varied work, or someone with relevant experience in property consultancy and building assessment.
What matters most is your understanding of building construction, defects and technical problem-solving, combined with the ability to communicate confidently and provide practical advice.
A Building Surveying qualification, RICS accreditation or progress towards chartership would be advantageous, although relevant practical experience will also be considered.
One of the real attractions is the opportunity to work within a business that brings together different technical disciplines, rather than operating in isolation.
You'll be part of a collaborative consultancy where building surveyors, architects, engineers and project specialists work together to provide clients with practical, joined-up solutions.
The business has established client relationships, a varied pipeline of work and ambitious plans for continued growth.
They're also genuine advocates of CPD, structured training and professional development, actively supporting individuals who want to progress towards chartership and develop their careers.
Whether you're looking to take that next step, broaden your technical experience or simply join a business where your contribution is recognised, there's plenty worth exploring.
