Overview

Building Surveyor

  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Location: Housing Services, Neighbourhoods Directorate
  • Length of role: Initial 6 months

We are seeking a Building Surveyor with expertise in damp, mould, and underlying surveys in residential properties, ranging from individual low-rise dwellings to flats in high-rise buildings. This role is crucial for supporting the implementation of Awaabs law and requires a candidate who can lead technical projects and provide high-level consultancy within the Housing Services.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of technical projects and work packages, ensuring alignment with the Council's corporate aims and objectives.
  • Provide high-level technical consultancy and develop frameworks to deliver quality development and outputs.
  • Use extensive knowledge to develop, design, and implement customer-focused technical solutions.
  • Identify and champion service improvement opportunities, assigning resources to ensure objectives are met.
  • Manage complex work packages, deploying resources effectively and managing stakeholder and customer expectations.
  • Foster successful relationships with internal teams and partner organisations to ensure effective delivery of work packages.
  • Communicate complex technical issues, manage negotiations, and represent the Council as an expert witness when required.
  • Manage a range of resources to ensure continuous improvement in service delivery.
Qualifications
  • Construction-related qualification or equivalent demonstrable work experience.
  • Experience in professional surveying services for major repairs, minor planned works, and legal housing disrepair.
  • Knowledge of building construction, standards, planning regulations, and relevant legislation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of effectively interacting with colleagues, residents, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage small projects and understand CDM regulations.
  • Full driving licence and access to a car each working day.
