Job summary

Gateley Smithers Purslow in Leeds is recruiting a full-time Building Surveyor to support a growing team in Yorkshire and surrounding areas. Responsibilities

  • Inspect and provide advice on design, construction, maintenance, repair and refurbishment of all types of buildings.
  • Carry out acquisition surveys, condition reports, measured surveys and defect investigations.
  • Prepare reports, schedules of work and works specifications.
  • Design and oversee works using recognised building contracts and current standards.
  • Understand and apply health & safety, party wall, building regulations and planning legislation.
  • Promote the company’s services and secure projects.
  • Comply with company procedures and Health & Safety regulations.

Job description

The Gateley Smithers Purslow are looking to recruit a full-time Building Surveyor to join our growing team in Leeds. The work will primarily be Yorkshire based plus local areas surrounding Leeds.

This is a busy and varied role providing support to the Surveying team on a wide range of projects, including insurance work, primarily residential and commercial buildings in all forms of construction. The Building Surveyor is expected to support their Line Manager and is responsible for handling projects within own level of authority and providing training and guidance to supporting team members.

This position provides a perfect opportunity for the successful candidate to show their ambition, drive and passion for customer service, as well as delivering our values, a professional manner and good interpersonal communication skills are essential.

You will be responsible for the following:
  • Inspect and provide advice on the design, construction, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of all types of buildings and sites.
  • Inspections to involve acquisition surveys, condition reports, measured surveys and defect investigations
  • To prepare reports, schedules of work and works specifications
  • To design and oversee works using recognised building contracts and to current technical standards
  • To understand and apply other relevant legislation such as health and safety, party wall, building regulations and planning
  • To help promote the company’s services and secure projects.
  • At all times to comply with the requirements of the Company’s administrative, personnel procedures and Health & Safety regulations.

The company includes highly skilled professionals such as Chartered Building Surveyors, Chartered Structural Engineers, and Architects, who operate across the UK within the insurance market.

Candidates will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
  • BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying
  • Experience and working knowledge of consulting engineering, surveying, architectural & planning practices and procedures supported by an awareness of the latest statutory requirements and technical publications.
  • Experience in Defect Diagnosis and report writing
  • Insurance repair project experience preferred
  • Experience in working to deadlines and within budgets on large scale projects
  • Experience and understanding of CDM Regs 2015, Party Wall and Building Regulation legislation
  • Sound mathematical, scientific and IT skills and the ability to think methodically to problem solve.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible and Variable Attitude to work type
