Job summary

Amey is seeking a permanent Building Structures Engineer to join the Advisory team. You will produce robust engineering solutions for built environment projects, supervise junior staff, and liaise with clients and suppliers to support delivery and bids.

The role includes on-site work and potential temporary assignments, with a focus on governance, standards, and project performance. Amey offers flexible development and a broad benefits package.

Qualifications

• Building structures experience demonstrated across projects.
• Experience working in a team of engineers and technicians delivering robust outputs.
• Technical leadership ensuring compliance with standards and governance.
• Familiarity with Structural Eurocodes and Building Regulations.
• Experience using Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Tedds.
• Experience managing quality and programme performance across multiple schemes.
• Incorporated or Chartered status with a relevant professional institution (or working towards).

Responsibilities

• Produce technically sound engineering solutions meeting relevant standards and client requirements.
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation.
• Oversee junior staff and supervise similar tasks.
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives; attend progress meetings.
• Contribute to bids and work-winning activities.
• Work on site as visiting or full-time (temporary) with out-of-hours work as needed.

The OpportunityWe have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Building Structures Engineer to join our Advisory team within Consulting. With shared office space in Birmingham, Telford, Manchester, Stafford, Sheffield and Bristol, we welcome applications from Senior Engineers across these regions.

The roleAs the Building Structures Engineer you will function as a team Member, providing and supporting the production of technically sound deliverables for projects within the Built Environment portfolio. The portfolio may be single or multidiscipline projects. Key responsibilities include:Producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasksThe preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme. Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actionsLiaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.Significantly contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning functionWorking on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full time but temporary role and including out of hours working

What you will bring to us:Have demonstrable building structures experienceExperience of working in a team, engineers and technicians, providing technically robust engineering outputs (designs, calculations, drawings, documentation).Provision of technical leadership and guidance, ensuring compliance with standards and design governance including familiarity with Structural Eurocodes and Building RegulationsExperience of using 3D CAD software, Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Tedds.Experience of managing quality and programme performance across multiple schemes. Professional engagement with clients and stakeholders, to support project delivery where appropriate. Hold (or be working towards) Incorporated or Chartered status with a relevant professional institution.
