Salary: £57,286 - £60,900 per year

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic building standards professional to lead our Building Standards Team. You will be responsible for a team of building surveyors and related specialist officers and for all decisions taken on building warrants and completion certificates by the local authority.

This is an ideal time to join Renfrewshire Council as our transformational programme continues to be implemented, while exciting and ambitious developments including those related to City Deal, Cultural Infrastructure and our Housing investment programme that seek to positively shape Renfrewshire for years to come.

Educated to Degree level or in possession of a professional qualification in a relevant subject, it is essential that you have experience working within a Building Standards Service in a local authority and experience in dealing with significant and complex Building Warrant applications as well as experience of implementing relevant legislation in relation to dangerous and defective buildings, experience of managing processes in relation to applications to a local authority for licenses or permits for fairgrounds, events and staging/platforms/raised structures and experience of working with external partners, private sector and public sector in the delivery of major projects.

You must have a solid understanding of local government, and public sector organisations operating environment particularly in the context of major building warrant applications, knowledge of building warrant system and relevant legislation and experience of delivering consultation forums and community engagement.

Effective influencing and negotiating skills at all levels aswell as written and oral communication skills including report writing and considerable experience in presenting complex information to a wide range of audiences, including elected members is essential.

You should have clear analytical skills to allow the exploration, evaluation and interpretation of information and opinions and be well organised with the ability to manage a challenging and varied workload and be comfortable working with a wide variety of people including elected members, agents, developers, community groups and members of the public.

As the Building Standards Manager you will work collaboratively with other teams across the Council to help shape development in Renfrewshire, including planning, economic development, regeneration, placemaking and housing.
