Job Description

The Role:

Working in one of the most iconic and magical Grade 1 listed buildings in the country, which hosts 390 events a year in its main auditorium and 800 in other spaces. The role involves providing M&E skills within the Building Services team to maintain the fabric and facilities of the building, supporting the staging of over 100 events, and ensuring all services function correctly through monitoring, maintenance, and small projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain mechanical and electrical plant and services, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Ensure domestic services are in good working order and repairs are undertaken.
  • Maintain electrical installations and plant in accordance with regulations.
  • Maintain life safety systems such as PA, fire alarm, and emergency lighting, and respond to repairs.
  • Be familiar with the 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations and site guides.
  • Diagnose faults and repair electrical equipment.
  • Undertake portable appliance testing as needed.
  • Maintain HVAC systems including chillers and air handling units.
  • Carry out pipework installations and repairs, ensuring compliance.
  • Monitor building systems like BMS and address issues promptly.
  • Attend to plumbing requirements and basic lift maintenance.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist with building services.
  • Keep equipment stores organized, maintain stock levels, and place purchase orders.
  • Perform planned preventive maintenance on mechanical and heating systems.
  • Follow sustainability policies and promote health and safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Person Specification:
  • Completed an apprenticeship or relevant courses (e.g., City and Guilds, NVQ Level 2).
  • Experience with electrical and mechanical building systems, including pumps, HVAC, and gas systems.
  • Experience working in a large public entertainment venue and responding to alarms and helpdesk requests.
  • Hold a CSCS card.
  • Ability to fault-find and rectify electrical issues under tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook; capable of completing duty logs.
  • Knowledge of energy management and environmental controls.
  • Flexible, team-oriented, good communicator, and calm under pressure.
  • Hands-on approach and diligent in health and safety procedures.
