Job summary

The Estates Department is looking to recruit a highly motivated trained individual to join our Estates Team as a Joiner. This rare opportunity offers an individual the experience of working within a large healthcare estate.

On a day to day basis, you typically will:

  • Carry out minor and general joinery installation work, door locks, fire seals, fire doors, window checks etc...
  • Interpret and work from instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to key trade, with minimal supervision as instructed by supervisors and completion of jobs on Micad via PDAs
  • Undertake routine maintenance (PPM)
  • Liaise with key stakeholders with regards to building maintenance and new minor work schemes

The successful candidate will be based at York but must be willing to work at any of the Trust's sites when required. You will be part of a team working day shift Monday to Friday, but also covering when necessary across other Trust sites. You must therefore be able to be flexible regarding the hours of duty and will be expected to undertake appropriate training as part of the job role.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties:

  • To undertake work appropriate to their core specialist skill to an above base level standard, working in an environment where work is managed rather than supervised.
  • To work across all trades as necessary, actively taking on board new skills and participating in training to improve efficiency and flexibility within the Estates Department.
  • To understand the principle function of all plant, equipment including all Building services on the site to enable competent judgements to be made which may impact on the delivery of service.
  • To carry out repairs and maintain complex locking systems throughout the Trust and its partner organisations to maintain security of property and possessions
  • To investigate and repair complex structural and component faults in various building types, to be innovative in dealing with problems as they arise to maintain the core business of the Trust
  • The successful candidate must be able to work cooperatively as part of a management team comprising of electrical, mechanical and building managers and have demonstrable experience of working within a maintenance environment. In addition, the successful candidate should be highly motivated, reliable, resilient, enthusiastic and be able to work under pressure with the minimum of supervision.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
  • Completion of recognised and registered CITB or EIBT or C&G apprenticeship (4 years or an equivalent level on knowledge gained in a shorter time)
  • Full UK Driving License (required for transporting Trust equipment and tools to remote sites at short notice).
Experience Essential
  • Minimum 2 years relevant post apprenticeship experience (having demonstrated high versatility and flexibility)
  • Experience of woodworking machinery and tools
  • Undertaking formal qualifications (C&G etc.) and training as required by legislation and the service
Desirable
  • Knowledge of Fire door legislation and fire compartmentalisation
