Job summary

SOCOTEC UK Ltd is seeking a Building Inspector to join our Building & Real Estate division in Leicester. You will inspect construction sites, advise on regulatory requirements, and work with architects, builders and developers to ensure safe, compliant buildings.

The role requires professional registration and strong communication and problem-solving skills. You will supervise junior staff and stay up to date with building codes and regulations.

Qualifications

• Must have professional qualification and regulatory registration (RICS/CABE or equivalent).
• Strong communication and relationship-management skills to work with clients and stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of project teams, with up-to-date knowledge of building codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive site inspections and regulatory assessments to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and related legislation.
• Supervise inspection activities, interpret regulations, and enforce compliance; issue notices when required.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports, certificates, and regulatory documentation; provide consultancy where SOCOTEC is not the RBI.

As SOCOTEC grows, so do our teams. We're looking for a dedicated Building Inspector to join our Building & Real Estate division and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride. We are seeking a proactive, reliable, and flexible Building Inspector to join the Building Control team. In this role, you will be inspecting construction sites at various stages, advising on regulatory requirements, and working collaboratively with architects, builders and developers to ensure safe, structurally sound, and code-compliant buildings. The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive site inspections and regulatory assessments – Perform building inspections at various construction stages to ensure compliance with Building Regulations, review structural, architectural, and mechanical designs, assess building materials, construction specifications, and fire strategies against relevant Building Regulations and allied legislation
• Supervise inspection activities and enforce regulatory compliance – Act as a Registered Building Inspector within your competency and registered class, supervise lower-class RBIs and graduate trainees, interpret and enforce national and local building regulations (including fire safety, energy efficiency, accessibility, and environmental requirements), and issue formal notices on compliance breaches under the Building Safety Act 2022
• Prepare detailed compliance documentation and provide consultancy services – Produce comprehensive inspection reports, compliance certificates, and regulatory approval documentation, maintain accurate records ensuring traceability and compliance with local authority requirements, and assist clients with Building Regulations consultancy advice where SOCOTEC is not acting as the Registered Building Control Approver

To be a successful Building Inspector, you should be able to demonstrate:

• Professional qualification and regulatory registration at senior level – Hold membership of RICS, CABE or equivalent (or be qualified by suitable experience), ensure CPD requirements are met to broaden and develop skills, and demonstrate compliance through registration as an RBI at an appropriate level (3G/3H)
• Excellent communication and client relationship management skills – Demonstrate strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities to work effectively with clients and deliver excellent client care across all interactions and project engagements
• Self-starting problem-solver with technical expertise – Show ability to work independently as well as part of large project teams, analyse complex issues, develop suitable solutions, implement these solutions effectively, and keep up to date with changes in building codes, regulations, and industry best practices
