Qualifications

  • Experience in general building maintenance, ideally in multiple maintenance areas.
  • Basic Health and Safety knowledge is desirable.
  • Exposure to building and system compliance is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Manage critical parts for tasks and remedial actions in the CAFM system.
  • Perform general maintenance activities, including CCTV and alarms.
  • Conduct monthly checks of fire extinguisher equipment and hydrants.
  • Inspect and test Misting Units and emergency lighting.
  • Check and test fire doors and smoke vents.

Overview

At Amey, we support our justice client, His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing safe, clean and efficient prisons. By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly. General Building Engineer plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

What you will do
  • Ensuring availability of critical parts for statutory tasks and managing remedial tasks in the CAFM system.
  • Performing general and semi-skilled maintenance activities, including security systems like CCTV and alarms.
  • Conducting monthly checks and tests of fire extinguisher equipment, fire hydrants, and hoses.
  • Completing quarterly RCD testing and inspecting Misting Units.
  • Maintaining fire doors and performing flushing and tap temperature tests as per water risk assessments.
  • Undertaking monthly and annual emergency lighting checks.
  • Checking and testing smoke vents as required.
  • Carrying out any other duties as required.
Role uniqueness

What makes this role unique is you will work alongside the engineers in all maintenance across the site as well as working independently. Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).

Ideally you will be qualified in multiple areas of maintenance as outlined above with experience in general building maintenance.

In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have experience of working within a custodial environment with basic Health and Safety knowledge and exposure to building and system compliance, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
