Salary: £35,000 to £42,000 pro rata depending on experience

Job type: Permanent - Full time & Part time positions available - no weekend work

About Us:

Are you an experienced Building Clerk of Works who is looking for an opportunity to work on some really great and varied projects ranging in value from £250K to £35M?

If you can answer YES to the above, then we have a fantastic opportunity within our growing business.

We are an independent consultancy providing high quality, traditional Clerks of Works and site inspections services to private and public sector clients, including housing associations and the NHS.

Role and Responsibilities:

Clerks of works, also known as Site Inspectors, Site Supervisors or Building Quality Officers.

The role of the clerk of works is making sure that work is carried out to the client's standards, specification, correct materials, workmanship, and to schedule. In most cases, the specifications are prepared by architects or engineers employed by the client.

We provide reassurance that works being carried out are in line with the contract documents and best practice. This is achieved through detailed inspections throughout the building process.

  • Monitor the progress against the clients programme for an independent view of the contract at any given stage.
  • Review drawings to ensure that the schemes are being built as planned and query any discrepancies.
  • Witness and record all necessary tests and inspections on behalf of the client.
  • Clerk of works can either be on site full time or make regular weekly visits to site.
  • Ensure value for money for the client through impartiality.
  • Act as the client's eyes and ears on site, anticipating problems in advance to prevent abortive works and wasted time.
  • Maintain a good relationship with the client and the design team by keeping in regular communication, attending site meetings, and issuing weekly reports.
  • You will be required to travel to different locations for this role, including the whole of Yorkshire and occasionally further afield in the North West (Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire, Liverpool, etc.).

The Candidate:

  • Have a wide understanding of the building industry, including knowledge of materials, trades, methods, and legal requirements.
  • Experience working on schemes within hospital environments (desirable).
  • Experience working on schemes within social housing environments (desirable).
  • Able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of various forms of construction.
  • Excellent IT skills (Word, Outlook, PDF) and ability to use iPad tablets on site for writing reports and viewing documents/drawings.
  • Own car (essential).
  • Member of ICWCI (desirable).
  • Have an up-to-date CSCS card (essential).
  • Must complete an enhanced DBS check once successful in the role.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary.
  • Mileage allowance.
  • Company mobile phone.
  • Company MacBook and iPad.
  • Company pension.
  • Competitive annual leave, plus bank holidays.
