Job description

Our Mission

At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), ‘zero emissions’ aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.

We won’t realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed; instead, we want to ‘redefine’ aerospace best practices.

We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.

What to expect

Vertical Aerospace is building technology to revolutionise how people fly. Our mission is to make air travel personal, on-demand, and carbon-free.

We are currently entering a phase of expansion with the objective of rapidly bringing competitive product(s) to market. As part of this expansion, we are looking for technicians to join the Battery team at Vertical Aerospace.

We are looking for experienced Build Technicians with high-quality mechanical and/or electrical/electronic assembly skills. You will be required to assist in all aspects of work at our new battery development centre, which has been established to test and build prototype batteries. A real “can do attitude” is required, and the candidate must be happy working with minimal guidance and supervision; the role will be varied and challenging at times. Our new facility near Hallen, Avonmouth will be the principal working location.

What you'll do

  1. Carry out the prototype build of battery packs, including battery modules, bus-bars, and electronic components.
  2. Carry out the assembly of mechanical and electrical components to technical drawings or finding their own effective solutions to required tasks whilst still working to high-quality standards.
  3. Operation of automated equipment and other robot stations.
  4. Ensuring all appropriate paperwork or recording is completed and maintained.
  5. Occasional site facilities maintenance as and when required.
  6. Daily health checks, equipment maintenance, and fault diagnostics.
  7. Maintaining a high standard of tool cleanliness and control throughout the workshop assembly areas.
  8. General assistance on-site, taking delivery of items, stores work, ordering equipment.
  9. Ability to work cross-functionally within the Battery team, supporting other activities as required.
  10. You may be required to work a shift system for high load periods within the business.
  11. Inspection of products for quality and adherence to engineering specifications.

What we'd like you to bring

  1. Strong attention to detail and quality mindset.
  2. Ability to build by following operation instructions.
  3. Experience of working with and around batteries.
  4. Both mechanical and electrical skills.
  5. Electronics, automotive, industrial, or aerospace background.
  6. Experience with the operation of automated machinery as well as being proficient and confident with various hand tools and power tools.
  7. Very good attention to detail and can operate to challenging deadlines without compromising standards or quality.
  8. Good working knowledge of electrical schematics and technical assembly drawings. Experience with wiring, crimping, soldering, etc.
  9. Capable of working autonomously and safely.

What can you expect from us?

We're on a mission. Where others see limits, we see opportunity, and we work at pace. Working at Vertical isn't your average role, but for those seeking a challenge, a flexible, supportive organisation, and an incredible team; working here is an opportunity to do the best work of your career.

Our approach promotes ingenuity and courage, while our environment builds success through diligence in safety and being open in the way we work. The only way we're going to assure the next chapter of aviation history is by working as a team, relentlessly, towards our goal.

Our benefits

Our people matter - we're not going anywhere without them. Which is why our company benefits go beyond the essentials.

  1. 26 days holiday, plus bank holiday.
  2. 5 extra days per year to buy (or sell).
  3. 5 extra days holiday when you get married or enter a civil partnership.
  4. Additional 4% of your salary to spend on extra benefits.
  5. Award-winning digital health and wellbeing service (Help@Hand).
  6. Company Share Scheme - open to every Vertical employee.
  7. Company Pension Scheme - 5% and we match it.
  8. Breakfast on us, every day.

We may just be the hardest job you've ever had, but we're confident it will be the most rewarding. Join the team today and help us shape the future of Advanced Air Mobility.
