Overview of the Principal Moderator role:

The Principal Moderator is responsible for maintaining the standards of the internally assessed and externally moderated component, ensuring alignment with the unit specification and assessment criteria. They are also responsible for setting coursework tasks/set assignments and standardizing moderators.

Main responsibilities:

  • Writing the Pearson Set Assignment, attending the Question Paper Evaluation Committee meeting (QPEC), and producing a final draft.
  • Compiling exemplar work, annotated to demonstrate application of assessment criteria for standardization and published documents.
  • Ensuring through standardization and monitoring that all moderators meet the standardization requirements and apply assessment criteria accurately and consistently.
  • Participating in the awarding process, advising on the functioning of the Pearson Set Assignment, and recommending preliminary mark ranges for grade boundaries.

Coverage of Construction and Practice component:

  • Carpentry & Joinery
  • Brickwork

The successful candidate should have experience in both fields, with emphasis on Carpentry & Joinery, which constitutes most registrations. They should also be able to present construction-related drawings using CAD or an equivalent drafting package.

Requirements:

  • Availability to attend multiple digital meetings, totaling 10-13 non-consecutive full-day events. Some meetings are fixed and cannot be rescheduled.

Restrictions:

  • You are ineligible if you are currently teaching this component.

Applicants must have a teaching qualification and at least one full academic year of recent teaching experience in the relevant subject area/sector within the last 8 years. Two references are required to support applications.

Industry Background:

  • Experience in Carpentry & Joinery and Brickwork is required, with emphasis on Carpentry & Joinery.
  • Ability to present construction-related drawings using CAD or similar tools.

Additional Information:

  • Must be available for digital meetings, with some fixed and non-reorganizable.

Additional skills include managing teams, working under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
