Protocol Education Limited in Gateshead is seeking a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant to support pupils with hearing impairments and SEND needs, helping them access learning and build confidence in a busy school environment.

The role is full-time, term-time only, with on-site work in Gateshead. The ideal candidate will have a BSL qualification or strong signing experience, excellent communication skills, and a patient, proactive approach to helping pupils reach their potential.

Protocol Education is currently recruiting a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming SEND school in Gateshead on a full-time, term-time-only basis.

Location: Gateshead
Contract: Full-Time | Term-Time Only

About the Role

As a BSL Teaching Assistant, you will provide vital support to pupils with hearing impairments and additional SEND needs, helping them access learning, build confidence and thrive within the classroom environment.

Your Responsibilities

• Supporting pupils using British Sign Language (BSL)
• Providing 1:1 and small group interventions
• Assisting teachers with lesson delivery and classroom activities
• Encouraging independence, confidence and social development
• Supporting communication between pupils, staff and peers
• Creating a positive and inclusive learning environment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
