Job summary

Coventry City Council is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to support deaf and hearing-impaired students in the Hearing Resource Base at Stoke Park Secondary School in Coventry. You will work with teaching staff to help students access lessons, using British Sign Language (BSL) to communicate and support learning.

You will listen to lessons, interpret or explain information, adapt tasks to the child’s level, and help students participate confidently in a safe, inclusive classroom.

Qualifications

• BSL level 2 or equivalent required.
• GCSE English and Maths at C/Level 4 or equivalent.
• Recent experience working with children in an educational setting.
• Experience supporting deaf/hearing-impaired children and/or SEND helpful.

Responsibilities

• Support deaf and hearing-impaired students within the classroom.
• Use BSL to communicate with students and support understanding.
• Interpret or explain information to students during lessons.
• Adapt classroom work to be accessible to each child.
• Assist with classwork, instructions and learning activities.
• Encourage independence, confidence and communication skills.
• Collaborate with teachers and school staff for effective support.
• Help students participate fully in lessons with peers.
