About the Role

As a BSL/Makaton SEN Tutor, you will develop and deliver inclusive lessons, primarily in Maths and/or English, that incorporate BSL or Makaton techniques. Your expertise will be crucial in creating a supportive learning environment where students can build confidence and progress academically. This position is ideal for someone with extensive SEN experience who is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable learners.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver personalised tutoring sessions for SEN students in Maths and/or English using BSL/Makaton strategies.
• Develop, adapt, and implement lesson plans that integrate BSL/Makaton to meet individual learning needs.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing clear, constructive feedback to students, parents, and other stakeholders.
• Collaborate with families, educators, and other professionals to ensure a consistent, supportive approach to student learning.
• Foster a nurturing, inclusive environment that encourages student engagement and academic growth.

Requirements

• BSL trained and/or proficiency in Makaton.
• Extensive experience working with children with SEN.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undertake one).

Desired Qualities

• Minimum 1 year of teaching or tutoring experience in Maths and/or English.
• Teaching qualification such as PGCE in Secondary Education and/or QTS .
• A strong commitment to using innovative, student-centered teaching strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to individual student needs.
