Job summary

Solihull College & University Centre seeks a qualified BSL Interpreter to support Deaf students across courses. Based at Blossomfield College, you will interpret spoken English into BSL and BSL into spoken English, helping learners access teaching and participate in college life.

The role requires minimum BSL Level 3, experience with Deaf students in education, and flexibility to work at other campus sites as needed. A BSL skills test will be part of the recruitment process.

Qualifications

• Must hold BSL Level 3 qualification.
• Experience supporting Deaf or hearing-impaired students in education.
• Be prepared to complete a BSL skills test as part of recruitment.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpretation from spoken English to BSL and vice versa in teaching and college environments.
• Support Deaf students across courses to enable access to learning and participation.
• Assist in creating an inclusive learning atmosphere across college campuses.

Job description

37 hours per week, 38 weeks term time

We are seeking a BSL Interpreter qualified to a minimum of BSL Level 3 to join our team based at Solihull College & University Centre. Providing support to Deaf students on different courses across the College, you will provide communication support through interpreting spoken English into British Sign Language (BSL) and BSL into spoken English. You will play a key role in enabling students to access learning and fully participate in college life. The successful candidate will be empathetic, innovative, organised and dependable, with excellent communication skills, and will support students in and outside of the classroom.

It is essential you have experience of supporting Deaf or Hearing-Impaired students within an educational environment.

Predominantly based at Blossomfield College, there may be a requirement for the successful applicant to work at the other College campuses as required.

Successfully shortlisted candidates will have to complete a BSL skills test as part of the recruitment process.
