Job Description:

Grass Valley is seeking an experienced Video/Broadcast Engineer for a one-year embedded contract at a major global broadcast customer. The engineer will report to the customer's Engineering department, whose identity will be disclosed during the interview process.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Research, design, documentation, installation, commissioning, and testing of virtualized compressed IP-based video origination and distribution systems, including related sub-systems for linear and streaming delivery via satellite and terrestrial fiber.
  • End-to-end project fulfillment, including installation, configuration, and commissioning of video equipment and software.
  • Coordination with in-house and third-party resources for system integration, documentation, fabrication, and installation.
  • Collaboration with technical support teams for system acceptance testing and training.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Experience in designing, building, and commissioning broadcast playout, distribution, and live streaming systems via IP.
  • Knowledge of baseband HD/SD video, compressed video/audio encoding, IP transport stream distribution, metadata payloads, OTT streaming architecture, and IP networking including multicast.
  • Ability to test and qualify compressed video transport streams at the packet level, including MPEG-4 H.264, HEVC H.265, MPEG-2, and JPEG-2000.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, test tools, and acceptance testing of compressed video streams.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Knowledge in scripting, process automation, data acquisition, measurement, and analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with video encryption, conditional access systems, broadcast monitoring, Ethernet topologies, digital ad insertion, SCTE protocols, and industry standardization developments.
  • Experience with Agile project management tools like SCRUM and JIRA.
  • Strong project management skills to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to perform technical analysis, exercise judgment, and communicate effectively.
  • Understanding of modern video technology, broadcast, and streaming media, with a focus on best practices and innovative solutions.
